Well, I’ve officially had my new 2026 R1S Tri-Motor All-Terrain for 24 hours, and it’s already teaching me a lesson in humility.

The good news: It is absolutely stunning and it drives like a total beast. The bad news: My R1S has decided that cameras are "too mainstream" and has gone on strike.

Technically, the car isn't a brick—it’s completely drivable—but all the "future" stuff has left the building. No Lane Centering and Autonomy+ is currently "Autonomy-Minus." I’m basically driving a spaceship that’s decided it wants to be a 1995 Jeep Wrangler for the weekend.

I’ve done the Rivian Reboot ritual more times than I care to admit, and remote support basically gave me a virtual shrug. So, I’m off to the service center tomorrow to see if they can convince my cameras to start talking to the rest of the car again.

I bought this thing for the cutting-edge tech, but I didn't realize "cutting edge" meant I’d be practicing my manual driving skills on day two.

The Ask: Has anyone else with a Gen 2 Tri-Motor had their "vision" system quit this early? Also since it's already going in, is there anything else I should have them 'check' or 'tighten' that you wish you’d caught in your first few weeks?

As a one month owner of a gen 2 tri, that has not happened to me (so far). Worst that has happened is an occasional issue with the SiriusXM app.

I know there is a 'soft' and 'hard' reboot. Have you done them both?

Thanks Walter - Yes I've done both types of resets with no success/change in status.

Remove the lens caps?
Seriously though, assuming this isn't something stupid like someone wrapped the car without cutting holes for the cameras, then ...

If the cameras did work at first, and now the cameras and only the cameras (and things that need the cameras) do nothing, it sounds like a single point of failure in one of the modules - or perhaps a connector that became unlatched. Definitely needs service, but the fact that your vehicle is so new means this is a defective part or an assembly error. Good news is that once fixed it should stay working (I haven't read about this specific problem before).

What version s/w are you on? If you have a drive cam hard drive, try removing it, hard reset, re-add the drive and see if that helps.

Depending on how the Gen 2 connected the cameras, you might have a loose connection at one of them. In my own case I had an issue with a loose connection in a side mirror camera that took out all the cameras because they were wired more in series. Taking these out would add etc other smart features that rely on them. I’d suspect a loose connection that came apart as you started to “jiggle” the vehicle with driving. These things do happen in all makes, although Rivian is still on the QA/QC learning curve in its builds. I’d let Rivian handle it With a service ticket.

I am not sure the to bision system is different than envision system on any other variant. Assuming that’s the case I have had zero issues with the vision system on my dual max

Love the writeup :)
Hope you get this one fixed soon, and I'm sure it's just a minor glitch that can be quickly solved by the Service Center

My vehicle is currently at the service center. They explained that when a system is taken offline for safety reasons, a log is generated that the service team can review to understand the reason behind it. However, multiple systems have been taken offline over the past few days (not all simultaneously), and none of them are logging the necessary information for the technicians. They anticipate a full day of diagnosis and additional time for repairs, which they believe will definitely take days to resolve.

Whatever Rivian finds, they will learn from it. So, while inconvenient, you are contributing to a better Rivian.
