Well Done - Mud Fun!! Keep us updated.

I have 12,000 on the Toyo AT Open Country and enjoy the road feel, handling and look. Stopped many times by drivers of all walks asking for more information so they may add to their rides. And energy consumption - mostly highway still at 1.9 miles/kW. Yes, 65-70 MPH is a sweet spot. Wear is even all around, should easily get another 12K from them. Last visit to Denver Service Center - Windshield R&R, Balance and Rotate and the Service Writer said I have excessive 'road force' on what are now, the rear tires. Can anyone share enlightenment about what this is and what to do?
I'd say getting 24K miles on this heavy vehicle is a tire win. That's great. So you're saying the front tires (now rotated to rear) had more wear than the former rears? If so, I can report the exact same thing on the OEM Pirelli's I purposely did not rotate previously. My front tires had significantly more wear than the rears, and I never use Conserve mode before someone blames that. My theory is there is just more lateral wear on the fronts when accelerating in the turns/curves and thus more wear on the fronts, but that's just my theory.

I think this is why (even in All Purpose):

"Front tire wear is further advanced because the front tires handle the bulk of the steering and braking forces."

Also, even in AP, the front motors are doing more of the regen braking...

Additional thoughts to ponder - What is Ride Height? What is suspension mode?
My previous ride was a 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trail Hawk edition with All-Season touring Pirelli Scorpions. It was delivered with the suspension in Sport mode, Auto Ride Height. Ride was Ok but nothing like my GC Summit EcoDiesel edition (another 5500 lbs of heavy vehicle). I might have tried to change but cannot recall so I will say I drove 32K, all highway, in sport mode. Tire wear was obvious and excessive. It was not until a conversation sometime after dumping the Tail Hawk for a mirid of reasons, was I told the Sport Mode changes many aspects of the suspension and would cause more than normal tire wear.

Was thinking about this the other day actually and I wonder if the graphic actually represents the overall power of the motors. In the Munro Quad motor tear down, they noted the rear motors were notably larger than the front (I think it was 15-20%) EDIT* but on paper Rivian spec output between the front and rear was only a few HP difference despite the sizing discrepancy so that could account for the seemingly over powered front wheels on acceleration per the power graphic

Hey @ksurfier, yes thanks, it’s been just over a year now with the Baja Boss’. 16,400 miles. 1.92kWh. I’m over-due for another rotation, but the wear has been even on the tread. I’d estimate 50% tread wear, which is quite a bit better than OEM Pirelli AT’s, but I’d estimate at this point 30k miles they will be shot. Noise, like many AT’s is a bit more noticeable as it wears. It did do better in the snow than the OEM’s for sure, but won’t touch a dedicated snow tire. I do a fair amount of detailing, and the aggressive side wall blocks make dressing the tires more time consuming, but they look awesome once done. Did the Alpine Loop off-road up to Engineer Pass last summer, and they were awesome. (Video Here). Will I buy them again? Yes!

*2 Year Update

—after nearly two years to the day, and 30,646 miles at 1.83mi/kWh, on my Mickey Thompson Baja Boss AT’s, they are being replaced with a new set of the exact same shoes. (Currently at 47,000 miles) Down to 3/32” and qualified for the 50,000 mile warranty, so Discount Tire gave me a $762 credit towards a new set, for a total of $1295 including installation, taxes, and disposal after credit. Have really liked these for my use case out here in the Rockies, several off-road adventures and, although not near as great as a dedicated snow tire, did ok in winter. For an AT, I’d say fairly quiet initially, got louder mid-cycle, then quieter at the end of life. LT’s gave me a bunch more side-wall confidence off-road

Cheers.

Thanks for the detail on this post. I may consider these, but which Baja Boss specifically did you get?

Your photos make it look like the M/T. Do you have the A/T?

America's Tire/Discount Tire seems to only have a 285mm for the M/T until you get to the 33-42" numbers. They have OEM sizes for the A/T.

No these are the Baja Boss A/T in OE size 275/65/20 in LT. The aggressive sidewall and tread pattern does give that “M/T” vibe, so I can see how you thought that.

Great to hear you are running them again - that is the highest praise. I had them on my Jeep GC & ran them on some of the same trails as you (I live in the front range). The LTs were a little stiff on that vehicle but they sounds great on the Rivian.

One question, to be clear. Did you experience any flats or torn sidewalls on the Mickey Thompsons?
