Worst truck ever. Bib fails and your done. No heat. No power just hours of beeping in a winter storm for 5 hrs.

What has Rivians response been to the situation? Seems like it was a Technician error and not a random truck failure.

Someone ignored the “service your 12v soon” alert.
Nope. The service technician had replaced it 2hrs earlier before it died. The 12 v service was on for about a week waiting for service appointment.

This certainly falls under Technician error. Many have had their 12v replaced with no issues, I have a 12v replacement in both my trucks without any hiccups. What was Rivian's response when you informed them of the error?

Welcome to the forum OP. So it seems you had all kinds of details that would have A) helped a lot of the forum people to understand your problem, and B) empower them to actually help you, rather than get frustrated.

When my Gen 2 had the dreaded vampire drain, and I was concerned about this, I would use a 1kwh Jackary battery and a battery tender. I connected that to the pigtails hidden under the hitch cover to trickle charge the 12V battery. This worked, so until an update came (can't recall which one) that, while not being ideal, kept me from worrying about dead 12V issues. Maybe something you could try?

I completely agree with the OP, and can easily understand his frustration. Granted, the initial post was pure emotional outburst rather than informational analysis, but that is predicable human reaction to an alarming situation involving a substantial purchase.

And, no two ways about it, it's a black eye for Rivian. It is Rivian who designed and built the electrical system, is responsible for service, and hired and presumably trained the technician who worked on it, not some random guy who tinkered with it.

Now, we can rationalize about new technology and a new company. We can claim that those who procure such an EV knowingly take on a not insubstantial risk given the dearth of service technicians, and service centers, the still evolving technology stacks, and ongoing discovery of previously unknown failure modalities, but when such a failure happens to you, that hardly lessens the sting, especially if your vehicle is the only one you currently have access to.

So, the decision by the OP to abort his association with Rivian is a rational and completely understandable one, and one many others might well take in similar situations. He probably realizes that Rivian cannot yet meet his needs for reliable and dependable transportation he can assuredly trust easily.

Further, we should all recognize and appreciate his posting, as a reminder and helpful warning to us all of a potential failure and Rivian's response, even if we take issue with how his cries of frustration were initially expressed.

Sensational thread titles never lead to productive discussion.

If a bad battery or technician mistake is enough to make you sell your truck, go for it. "Worst truck ever" because of an issue like that? C'mon. Thinking about all of the issues I've had across numerous vehicles in my life, those would be right near the bottom of my list of worst things to happen. Consider yourself blessed if this is the worst vehicle problem you've ever had!

No. I don't appreciate the "worst truck ever" bitch and moan.

I do appreciate people coming to the forum with a problem, sharing their experience, asking for help, and/or letting us know the cause and resolution of a problem. If he wants to cry and drool on his bib, he should do it to his mommy and leave us alone.

Well, from his perspective, it might very well be the "worst truck ever" he has had, no? I mean, I get the post and the lack of initial details might rub the wrong way, we might even go so far as to call the post immature, or at least unconsidered - and that is not an unreasonable assessment. Rants and complaints usually provoke a defensive reflex. But we shouldn't fall into the "blame the victim" trap here. The guy had a bad experience with a Rivian that was, at the end of the day, entirely Rivian's fault. Any ire we might feel is more justly aimed not at the OP, c'mon.

I find it helpful in getting to the essential facts to drain the emotion from the story and try to focus on the base situation. We can overlook, or perhaps acknowledge the emotional outburst without further adding to the emotional stew, then deal with what causes and effects and lessons we can glean. That won't assuage his emotional state, or do anything to affect feelings, that's an entirely different issue.

My "worst ever" vehicle experience was my fuel pump dying unexpectedly, at 70mph on the interstate, over an hour from my home. Obviously not a Rivian, but damn that sucked!!!!
