Is the awning higher than the tent when everything is closed up?
Thought I had posted this too. There's a mattress we stuff into the tent that's not in there currently. It's pretty close to the same height overall with the ladder under the tent. I was planning on repacking the tent tonight and putting the brackets back up, I'll take some more pics with a focus on height and measure it out from the ground as well.

Fought with the brackets a lot to get the awning up on three of them. After welding the cross brace in, there ended up being enough variation to make things difficult. Not worth making a jig for three only brackets though. I intentionally put about 1.5 degrees tilt in the brackets because the roof rails tend to have that slight bow to them. When I had it on my truck the ends tended to sag down a bit. Will see how it works out.

Still need to re-stuff the tent. In lowest suspension mode the highest part of the awning is about 7'3" off the ground.

Hi. Great write up. Is it safe to assume that there are no 3rd party awning brackets being produced to be utilized with the R1S? It appears that you are now the de facto SME on this subject.

I am interested in getting a 270 awning for my R1S too also utilizing the Rivian crossbars.

Other than fabricating my own, do you have any suggestions?

Thanks!

Mike

I honestly hadn't looked around for any. Definitely worthwhile to raise it up above the crossbar level of the standard mounts though.

I'm late to the party, but did y'all find anything? I've just realized that the 270 awning I've been eying will have the same problem you outline in this thread. Would these work (they make a 7" version): https://overlandruffrax.com/products/riser-bracket

I’m at my install of iKamper DLX and Free spirit 270 awning and getting a refund of the awning due to hatch door. Any other 270’s with when Rivian R1S? I have the Rivian cross bars. Disappointed.

Me too, I am also on the lookout for a 270 awning solution on my R1S where I can open the liftgate

That looks really good!

How easy/hard is taking the canopy on & off?

I'm thinking of getting a somewhat smaller one. I'd be mounting one on my new fancy Go Fast, but I don't want to be driving around with it year-round. I'd be taking it on and off a few times a year at least. Sometimes solo.
