I am on 3rd set of Scorpions at $75k mi. Seems crazy but while the Defenders do last a lot longer they’re each 10 lbs. more. What is the range hit and how do they sound after 15k miles?

Are Michelin Defender LTX 20” ATs really the right replacement for Pirelli Scorpions?

Where are you seeing the 20” defenders are 10lbs more? They’re 5lbs lighter and should be significantly more efficient and quieter because the less aggressive tread.

LTX MS2 most definitely are not ATs. They are all-season mud & snow. Tires from two completely different categories. Apples to oranges. The Pirelli ATs can last over 30k miles. It’s either your driving, or you didn’t rotate, or your alignment is out of spec.

My R1T has the Adventure package, so came with a full set of five (four plus spare) OEM Scorpion AT+ 275/65R20's. I changed them out for 60 series AS tires after about 1,000 miles, but kept them around thinking that since they are 3PMSF rated, they would make good winter tires. Was disabused of that notion by the reviews and the forum comments, so they've been in storage since July of 2024.

I think he was referring to the LTX Platinums which are the ones I have and are definitely heavier but I really like them. Can't answer your 15k question though unfortunately because I'm only at about 7k miles on them but they are wearing significantly slower and still very quiet so far.
And I like the still somewhat aggressive look compared to the LTX M/S. But to clarify, even the platinum is considered an AS tire, not AT as far as I'm aware.

The Michelin Platinums are very heavy so maybe that’s what you’re thinking. Unfortunately when I needed to replace the crappy Pirellis (redundant I know ) those were the only real alternative for the 20s. You feel that unsprung weight and I would make another choice these days, but the Platinums are nicer driving in every way. I have now put 10k more miles on the Michelins than the Pirellis could manage (35k vs 25k) and it looks like they may go for 50-60k pretty easily.

The Michelins are a little bit heavier, but the range is a little bit better (more friendly tread pattern) and the road noise is a **-lot** better. This past winter we had a decent bit of snow, and it performed very well in the snow.
Most notably, it looks like the Michelins will last a decent bit longer than the Pirellis. The Pirellis were replaced after 33,500 miles, and were rotated every 8,000 miles. Right now the Michelins have 26,000 on them, and they still look in great shape after the most recent rotation at ~24,000 miles. Given their current state I am definitely going to get mor than 40,000 miles, might even get over 50,000.

My Michelins are on pace to more than double the Pirelli lifespan with my somewhat “sporty” driving style. Over 35k miles on my Platinums and my efficiency is basically exactly the same as the Pirelli ATs.

I switched to the Michelin LTX (not platinum) 10,000 miles ago. My observations are a 6%-8% improvement in efficiency town/highway, a significantly smoother and quieter ride with very little wear on the tires. You do give up some off-road grip and sport handling but with our drive habits it’s a great fit. Rains a lot here in Florida - you cant beat the rain performance with the Michelin LTX, the scorpions were sketchy

I’m thinking of replacing mine with the Bridgestone Dueler AT Ascent. Anyone have experience with that? It’s $1400 installed at Costco

There are a few threads on this tire, along with initial impressions and anecdotal initial efficiency observations. Very close to the factory ATs. But quieter.
