Can you say "hallucination"? AI can.

Sure glad none of the major players are investing in AI 😆

Which ones? Genuinely curious. Many are, because they're in it to make money... and they don't care what they invest in is real or not, as long as there is opportunity to make money on a bet. They just have to ride the hype and cash out before the suckers.

Your "AI answer"'s only source for the "extra $100" claim is an "article" on a "news" website that is itself 100% AI-generated. That article uses an earlier article of their own as the "original source" - an earlier article that makes no such mention.

When AI gives you an answer, it usually gives you its sources. Rather than spread rumors and falsehoods on forums, you can just follow the links AI gives you. If it doesn't give you its sources, just ask it. Half the time, it will correct itself. When I asked Google AI "is there an extra deposit necessary to purchase a launch edition rivian r2 if I already have a deposit?" it gave me an answer similar to yours. When I asked it to confirm:

AI isn’t a FACT based system, it’s a PROBABILITY based system..so trending, frequent, new, high volume posts on the internet for a certain narrative become highly probabalistic, even if they are not FACTUALLY true.

Its a feature, not a bug.

Lesson learned. Sorry if my post made anyone as worried as me about missing out. I knew the Forum discussants would have the answer, just didn't know they'd be so hard on me and AI.

Nailed it. And if a falsehood is most often shared, AI will assume that is the truth and amplify that falsehood even more. Terrible tech and reasonable minds should be aware and use it with care.

I hope you were joking.
Yes, joking. I thought about a (-: at the end, but then thought it was probably unnecessary.

I am in Denver to see the R2 up front and personal. If anyone has questions I can get answers to tomorrow and post on the Forum, let me know. A payback, of sorts, for causing all this fuss.

You asked so ... take a tape measure :) and measure the following
  1. Step in height, ground to the top of door sill. Relevant for those who may have difficulty stepping up into the R2
  2. Depth of trunk from tail gate sill to the back of the rear seat and again to the back of the front seat, assuming they will have a vehicle on show with rear seats folded as was the case previously. Note where the front seat is positioned for the latter measurement.
  3. Height of trunk from floor to top of tail gate opening and from floor to internal roof line
  4. Height of trunk from floor to where the cargo cover will be fitted
  5. Width of trunk between wheel wells and at widest position
  6. Height/clearance from ground to fully raised rear tail gate, i.e. who is going to hit their head on the raised tailgate and who isn't
  7. Get an estimated depth/thickness of the tailgate to add to measurement 6 so people can assess if the outside of the tail gate may hit their garage door when both are in the raised/open position
  8. Measure from rear seat back to rear of front seat, ideally min/max measurements based on front seat position, so people understand rear child seat space
There's probably more but those seem to cover several questions that have already been asked and would provide useful information I haven't seen anywhere else.

Thanks and have a great experience.

I keep getting that email and already given them $700. I'm only going to try a few more times and let you know.

Ok, I had.my marching orders and was ready to comply. The place was packed. Half hour or more wait to get up close to the car. Once there, time clock started.

What I can report is that there is plenty of room in the back for my border collie, no problem stepping into the car, I am 6.4 and didnt have to duck when the back hatch was open.

The cargo space numbers I got off AI, so I'm pretty certain those are correct.

Well it was a bit of a cheeky last minute request but thanks for entertaining the idea, I'm sure all the detailed measurements will emerge in time and probably long before many of us have the opportunity to buy one. I am hoping to see the R2 at the May Block Party in Palo Alto, on the Friday to avoid the crowds, but its the Bay Area so that may not make much difference. Anyway, hope you had a good time.
