  1. Deer migration area not safe at any speed

I've had my Rivian about a year and a half and it doesn't impress me much anymore. Tonight I was impressed. I had to go 22 miles to Walmart for some dog food. It was dark of course. My route went through one of the most notorious deer migration areas in the county. On the way back I saw a deer...
  2. Snow Mode--still too much regenerative braking

In certain regen situations, the car will activate the brake lights. Does it also activate the ABS system? It's hard for me to wrap my head around how regen and ABS would work together. Or do they?
  3. An Owner Of A Brick

Another idea shot down. :headbang: Maybe it isn't possible to detect a bad battery. Having a bricked car is the worst thing that can happen and you'd think solving this problem would be a higher priority. Evidently it isn't a high priority unless it happens to you.
  4. An Owner Of A Brick

I've had my truck back for three or four weeks and everything is normal. I decided I should revisit the situation. I have concerns about the way repairs were done. It was a bad 12-volt battery. I asked someone and they said some Rivians have 2 12-volt batteries and some don't. Does that mean...
  5. Mobile Service Invoice - Full of Lies

There is something weird about this. The rattle only happens when the car is moving, so how can he verify that it was fixed without moving the car. Moving the car would be a normal/required part of the service. That's probably why it's in the work order. Why didn't he take the car for a drive...
  6. An Owner Of A Brick

Having experienced this myself, I'm saying that this isn't the way to handle an ordinary maintenance problem. Maybe the batteries need to change. They could have self-diagnostic capability. We can go to the moon, why not be able to tell if a battery is about to go bad. A false alarm is better...
  7. An Owner Of A Brick

Okay, so 12V battery maintenance isn't a big deal. In an ideal world where things make sense, a Rivian (or any EV) would never be "bricked" by a faulty battery. The Rivian/EV would be able to detect in advance that the battery is faulty and it would be serviced in a timely manner without a lot...
  8. An Owner Of A Brick

If it is a 12V battery, is that covered by the warranty or is it a normal maintenance item? If it isn't covered, then towing it to the service center wouldn't be covered. What are other people's experiences with a dead Rivian/battery?
  9. An Owner Of A Brick

Michael came and picked up my car today. He was so nice. If you tried to imagine who you would want taking care of your $100,000 car, Michael would be it. He explained what he was doing and all the cables and things. I was very impressed. Of course, he is just one cog in the big Rivian service...
  10. An Owner Of A Brick

I don't know what YES stands for. If it means something like "Young Extrovert Switches cars" then I won't be joining that club. So far, as far as catastrophes go, this has been a minor one. It remains to be seen what is actually wrong with it. I plan on keeping my Rivian. I did the brick thing...
  11. An Owner Of A Brick

I never thought I would be one of those people. Monday morning I had a doctor appointment and I went out to my R1T and my key fob wouldn't unlock it. The keycard and the phone app wouldn't either. I looked through the window and the screens were dark and there was no electrical activity at all...
  12. Tapping out as well, goodbye Rivian...

My nephew has a couple of Jeeps (no EV). One has aluminum doors and he gets so mad if you slam the door too hard. This is a super-tough offroad vehicle, right? I don't understand buying a car with 1940's styling. I don't understand trading a Rivian in on a Jeep. It's a giant step backwards. And...
  13. Get your 2026 Rivian R2. Next year . . .?

Since the R2 will be a 2026 model, will it go on sale sometime next year (in 2025)? Is it a 2026 model?
  14. Sport Mode Gen 1 Quad is ridiculous

I like driving in sport mode in lowest height and soft suspension. I think it looks cool seeing that big thing hugging the ground. And it's fun carving through the corners. Mostly I do it for the looks I get. It isn't really comfortable. I've gotten spoiled.
  15. Sirius radio

I went to the SirusXM website and saw the "satellite radio"? device. I don't see how it would fit on the dashboard. Maybe somebody can tell me if this is possible: a cell phone sized receiver that will fit in existing cell phone holders. There is a variety of different types. Second, it would...
  16. Second service much better than the first, and got to compare a gen 1 quad, vs my gen 2 max

It's cool that gen 2 is real, significant improvements and not just cosmetic. I know they were able to reduce the amount of wire. I have a gen 1 R1T I'm fine with it. One thing I wish I had is the improved driving assist features made possible by more cameras / sensors, which I can never have...
  17. Mysterious, unidentified error

The camp speaker makes sense. I forgot about it. It's separate from the car system so that's why the sound doesn't mute. Sometimes I think it doesn't charge properly and eventually starts going dead and then tries to let you know. I will check it tomorrow. I mean, I will take it out of the car...
  18. Mysterious, unidentified error

Everyone has heard the Rivian error sound. It's a descending chord that sounds like the lowest note that a bass guitar can make. Maybe that's what it is. It starts quite high and slides about an octave down. Today I heard it about every five minutes. It was irregular and intermittent. Usually...
  19. R3 Rivian review by Sandy Munro: Good Things Come in Small Packages

A couple of problems. The biggest is it's years away. In dog years that's new pet time. Nobody has driven them, maybe they're not drivable, so all we can go by is looks and hype. It's cute and great and wonderful. And. Now the competition knows exactly what to expect and has years to copy it...
  20. Little bump with rear bumper, Lotta grief (updated w/ letter submitted to Rivian)

There is some odd stuff going on, but I don't think it has anything to do with being an EV. Zero. It's just modern car technology. However, putting something in the bumper that breaks so easy is bad design. You're lucky it's just the black plastic piece. Should be easier and cheaper to repair.
