I never thought I would be one of those people. Monday morning I had a doctor appointment and I went out to my R1T and my key fob wouldn't unlock it. The keycard and the phone app wouldn't either. I looked through the window and the screens were dark and there was no electrical activity at all. During the night it had charged to 100%. After that was when it died, because the app is reporting 100% charge. I called Rivian and they tried what they could. Tomorrow a tow truck is going to pick it up and haul it to the service center in Salt Lake, 95 miles away. I had driven it the day before and it was totally normal. There was no warning at all.

I'm wondering what sort of problems are involved in loading a dead Rivian onto a tow truck. Can you push it or pull it?

Luckily I have an older Honda Ridgeline so I still have transportation. I think EV rule number 1 is have backup transportation, preferrably something gas-powered.

Same thing happened to my Gen 2 R1S last week. There is a pull cord in the driver's side front wheel well. You just need to unscrew 3 screws. I was able to pop the frunk and attach a battery charger. This was enough to get the screens booted and into tow mode. Tow truck pulled me out while I steered.

I suspect you'll be joining the YES club in this post soon.

I don't know what YES stands for. If it means something like "Young Extrovert Switches cars" then I won't be joining that club. So far, as far as catastrophes go, this has been a minor one. It remains to be seen what is actually wrong with it. I plan on keeping my Rivian. I did the brick thing and it probably won't happen again. I think towing it 100 miles is probably overkill. Any 12V battery problem should be fixable on-site. However, if Rivian wants to pay almost $1000 to tow it, then that is their business. Literally. That's what it will cost me if it isn't covered by the warranty. If Rivian has a tow truck and a driver it might not cost them much.

They've replaced 12v batts on-site in the past only to have the new 12v batts go dead/become ruined days later. Seems sometimes it's not bad batts, it something in the vehicle that's gone bad so now they'd rather have the vehicle at the SC where they can do a proper diagnostic vs. just rolling the dice and dropping in expensive new 12v batts.

My 12V died and Rivian Towed it. The stated (literally) "Since it's parked in a safe place, we will rather have it checked at the service center".

My best guess is that you might be on the same boat BUT I'm not 100% sure because you had your truck plugged in charging during the night. Keeping your truck plugged in is Rivian's recommended action when you have a low 12V or any other 12V warning in order to avoid the HV battery going into safe mode.

Yup. With all these 12v posts, kind of glad I have the dual 12v's.
I had the duals as well... ? When one dies, it shuts everything down sadly

Yep, when the primary fails, everything is dead.
