They could be the exact same cost per mile and I would pass. I love home charging.
Even if it were slightly cheaper to fuel with hydrogen, I would still probably take the BEV because of home charging. I haven't seen a gas station parking lot outside of the occasional car wash in years.

I would lease to get an incentive....and buy out immediately. I get it....I am not anti-lease. Just not for me.

My point was Rivians depreciate alot more than Jeep Wranglers and people have been commenting the opposite. I own both....and know Wranglers retain a very high level of value. Rivians....not so much.

I am OK with it.....because the Rivian is such a game changer....just taking issue with those suggesting that Wranglers depreciate alot.
A pre 2020 Wranglers hold value. Same with previous gen Tundras and Tacomas. Current Wranglers do not. In fact, I would not lease or buy a 4xE without a $20-25K discount (including $7500 lease incentive

Most Jeep these depreciate like the Titanic. My 23 Grand Cherokee is worth $25K less than new. Basically I traded in a Model Y for it and both have the same depreciation lol.

Ideally I would split my own hydrogen at home from solar. Failing that, I would do the opposite of you: fueling at home vs at a gas station on my way to the grocery store every two weeks doesn’t matter. Both are pretty convenient. On road trips, though, hydrogen would be much, much better than DC fast charging will ever be. For camping, towing, and for RVs, too, range and refueling time matters. You can only get quick, high density green fuel with hydrogen or synfuels.

My nephew has a couple of Jeeps (no EV). One has aluminum doors and he gets so mad if you slam the door too hard. This is a super-tough offroad vehicle, right? I don't understand buying a car with 1940's styling. I don't understand trading a Rivian in on a Jeep. It's a giant step backwards. And, my nephew drove the hybrid and he didn't like it. Call me totally confused.

Different tools for the job. One is an excellent off-road vehicle, one is a jack of all trades that isn’t excellent at any of them. Different aspects of vehicle characteristics carry more weight for some people.

Please explain why it was too car like and how Tacoma would have a higher seating position? I'm curious what you mean.
Go to your local Toyota dealer and test drive a brand new 4th generation Tacoma TRD Off Road model. It will soon become apparent as to what I am referring to.

$10K off a Rubicon 4xe isn’t much of a discount. That $71K vehicle is probably sub $50K the second you drive off the lot. Jeep discounts are insane these days because they overproduced and overpriced them. And Jeep reliability is worse than Rivians lol.
Rivian is offering $66k on a $105k R1S after 4 months. So I’m guessing it’s $25k as soon as you drive an R1 off the lot. ?

I am not stuck....I could replace it at anytime without concern. But in a lease....you are more stuck often during the lease period. I like the "I don't like it anymore" and can get rid of it today approach I take.

So I don't finance or lease vehicles. Gives me complete freedom of the moment.
Hmmm. How does a loan restrict freedom? You can pay it off whenever. If you can get $100k for 0.9%, it’s essentially free money that you shouldn’t turn away because, even a modest investment, will net you a good amount of return.

Your not wrong...for some investors that would make sense. But you do have to consider fed and state taxes on gains while not being able to deduct car loan or even home loan interest.

And as far as restricting freedom...as long as you always maintain positive asset in the depreciating assets you burrow against or have the immediate access to the funds to deal with the difference you haven't really restricted any freedom.

I'll take your word for it. Dealer lots are no place I wanna be.

Man I am sorry to see this but as long as your happy with the decision that is all that matters. Any reason why you decided get rid of your T?

As a side note you did pretty well on trade considering the current market for used vehicles....especially EVs because everyone seems to be afraid of taking them on trade.

The only concern I have for you is stellantis products in general are having a horrible demand problem. I would be concerned about how long you plan to keep it. The cost (difference in price paid vs trade value) of that wrangler 4Xe will likely be much much higher if market conditions hold.

My opinion here...nowhere near as much fun as the Rivian...but...it is a competent machine.
There's really not a demand problem. The problem is that they raised prices to a ridiculous level and most people just aren't willing to pay $70K+ for a Jeep Wrangler. That said, there are a few dealers across the country who will let you order a Jeep (not a stock lot vehicle) and give you up to 10% under invoice, which can equate to $15K or more off sticker.

My wife actually wants a Jeep now. She is coming from a Lexus GX. Kids are grown and she just wants something a little more fun and easy to park. I know ZERO about Jeeps (long time Toyota 4Runner guy). Anyone here have any recommendations you would make for someone in my situation? She was asking the other day which particular model she should consider, and I had zero input I could offer. We did rent a 4XE on our latest trip, and it handled and drove well - just a lot of road noise.
My recommendation would be a Grand Cherokee, but only with the V6 8-speed combo. Or if she wants a 3-row version, that can still be had with the Hemi V8. I'd still prefer the V6 because it's basically a bulletproof engine at this point and the ZF8 speed is a very good & reliable transmission. I'd avoid the 4xe like the plague, personally.
