  1. R1S demand slowing down?

Seems like R1S inventory went from 120 to 240 overnight in the bay area, and R1T went from 500 to 800.... Anyone else seeing something similar? I wonder if it might be a glitch as its such a large change.
  2. Rivian hires new Chief Marketing Officer from Meta/Amazon

Maybe I'm being too cynical but Rivian has $10+bn of cash so RJ is probably paying them very well (in a difficult tech hiring environment) to lure them away from places like Apple, Meta, etc.
  3. Is Rivian getting desperate?

I agree. Hard to say that there's a demand problem when all non-max dual motor inventory is snapped up instantly. At best you could make the case that if Rivian hadn't dropped MSRP and leasing rates/opened up the shop then R1S inventory would be piling up. There is probably some validity to...
  4. Is Rivian getting desperate?

I wonder how much more they can really pull the pricing lever. The Standard+/Dual motor R1S ($78k, 315 mile range) has basically reached pricing parity with the Model X (~$80k, 335 mile range). I could see them make features like the max pack cheaper, perhaps.
  5. Standard and Standard+ battery packs introduced; R1T and R1S base prices dropped (2/8/24)

I think Rivian's hope was to increase their ASP over time. This latest pricing makes the higher end trims optically look more expensive even though their all in cost hasn't changed. It would not surprise me if this eats into demand on the high end and leads to eventual price cuts on features...
  6. Standard and Standard+ battery packs introduced; R1T and R1S base prices dropped (2/8/24)

I don't know if I'm happy about the Rivian price cuts....it's one thing to cut price if you're already profitable like Tesla, and a whole different animal if you're already losing money. Tesla still generates cash after cutting price 20%-30% and they have inflicted massive losses on Ford and...
  7. Standard and Standard+ battery packs introduced; R1T and R1S base prices dropped (2/8/24)

So a 4% price cut on the base model R1S and R1T.....not too severe at all. But clearly seems to indicate some struggles with demand at current price, which surprises me since R1S inventory has been low this whole time.
  8. R1S lease payments dropped... after I started my lease

I wonder how much influence Rivian has on setting the lease prices. Most legacy auto companies have captive finance companies in house (e.g. Ford Credit). Since Rivian does not, they partnered with Chase. My understanding is that they sell the vehicles to Chase and then Chase takes it from...
  9. R1S lease payments dropped... after I started my lease

Wow, that's unlucky. I wonder what happened in the last few weeks that would cause the payments to drop so much for what I assume is a similar vehicle.
  10. Anyone receiving incentives on the R1S/R1T ?

You can see it for yourself below! https://www.rivianforums.com/forum/threads/rivian-r1t-leasing-now-available.21592/post-458745 Seemed real to me.
  11. Anyone receiving incentives on the R1S/R1T ?

A forum member posted about getting a lease on a great R1T where Rivian threw in the All-Terrain wheels/PPF (~$4k value) for free. At the end of last year Rivian offered some charging/installation incentives on the R1T as well. Anyone have other stories to share/advice for members on how to...
  12. R1S demand slowing down?

Wow I didn't realized that they had started advertising. I glimpsed an $84k (dual motor/large) R1S in the Bay Area for a hot second but it was gone the next day. The general lack of cheaper configs like that in the shop suggests to me that demand is still pretty healthy which is good...
  13. R1 refresh update coming in 2024 with upgraded “Ascent” trim / model

Sure, Rivian's doing great by that metric. But Tesla never priced the Model S at a 20% discount for one group of buyers while simultaneously selling at full price to another group. That's what I'm getting at - what is demand for full price Rivian? And since we are talking Tesla - they never had...
  14. R1 refresh update coming in 2024 with upgraded “Ascent” trim / model

I see ~108 in the bay area. That's the other wrinkle. Seems like they typically show something close to regional (maybe west coast, midwest, east coast)/national inventory in the shop, and then it becomes hyperlocal at the end of the quarter. I'm not sure if any of the 108 R1S in the bay area...
  15. R1 refresh update coming in 2024 with upgraded “Ascent” trim / model

You are definitely right about them only showing one of each available configuration. Someone pointed that out to me with regards to the R1T shop when the inventory there was hovering around ~500 for a long time and its true - you won't find two of the exact same config (I tried). The question...
  16. R1 refresh update coming in 2024 with upgraded “Ascent” trim / model

Until I start to see the number of R1S vehicles in the shop inventory meaningfully increase, I think its hard to say that they have a demand issue. Let's say they make 9,000 R1S a quarter now (likely conservative). That's 100 per day. There are usually about ~100 R1S vehicles in the shop and...
  17. R1T/R1S Shop Access Now Open to All (most)

That's a good point. I didn't realize the base Model X has a 335 mile range. There is even a ~$60k EV9 trim that offers 304 miles. If you can get a Model X with 75 miles more range for the same price, or a EV9 with 40 miles more range for $20k cheaper, it might not be that much of a game...
  18. R1T/R1S Shop Access Now Open to All (most)

I think Rivian will see a meaningful step up in demand after they finish their factory rework and roll out the Dual Motor/Standard Pack R1S configuration. That will only cost $78k which compares favorably to the base Model X at ~$80k and will offer buyers some tax credits as well.
  19. R1S Resale Value

Thanks for the detailed account. It does seem like even on used car websites, you are starting to see relatively new <1,000 mile R1S cars priced at a ~10% discount to MSRP. I suppose that is what you expect for a regular car when it's driven off the dealer lot, but it all seems to have...
  20. R1S demand slowing down?

Very surprising that no one bid higher, especially given that configuration costs 98k MSRP now.
