  1. EPA Filling for additional 2025 models (R1 Refresh) -- Dual Max, All-Terrain Dual Max, Performance Dual Max, and All-Terrain Performance Dual Max

Fair enough. Thanks Dad. Can I go play now? In all seriousness, wasn't there a range test done recently between a QM and Performance DM w/ a Max back and the real world range was pretty minor? Only a delta of 20 miles was it? I'll have to dig it up, but I hope by offering a Max Pack that it...
  2. EPA Filling for additional 2025 models (R1 Refresh) -- Dual Max, All-Terrain Dual Max, Performance Dual Max, and All-Terrain Performance Dual Max

You're stating the obvious and harping on the obvious answer to try and prove what? The obvious? It's not a secret that both methods warm the battery. A dedicated heat pump is better than what you have now. Period. Why do you think Rivian is adding one? Answer that. The whole point of this...
  3. EPA Filling for additional 2025 models (R1 Refresh) -- Dual Max, All-Terrain Dual Max, Performance Dual Max, and All-Terrain Performance Dual Max

In short, from what I saw from the tear down it's a liquid thermal management system that runs along the pack to heat the battery cells with the heat source coming from the motors; that are triggered to produce excess heat that is then transferred. Now if you had a dedicated heat pump to more...
  4. EPA Filling for additional 2025 models (R1 Refresh) -- Dual Max, All-Terrain Dual Max, Performance Dual Max, and All-Terrain Performance Dual Max

Correct in what I said, as I was referring to the simple and general fact that in very cold temperatures, you will experience slower charging when the cells are not at optimal temps. This does not mean that a heat pump is required or it's a bust. Your misunderstanding the context. There's...
  5. EPA Filling for additional 2025 models (R1 Refresh) -- Dual Max, All-Terrain Dual Max, Performance Dual Max, and All-Terrain Performance Dual Max

Not I. I never took part in any of those 20" AS tire vs xyz threads or dual vs quad snow driving threads, but I get where you're coming from.
  6. EPA Filling for additional 2025 models (R1 Refresh) -- Dual Max, All-Terrain Dual Max, Performance Dual Max, and All-Terrain Performance Dual Max

I was referencing the member's experience who replied sharing his experience with his Model Xs. Regarding the actual quote, funny enough it's a Tesla and they're notorious for under delivering so it's less of a shock for me to see those claims than it is for others. You also have to keep in...
  7. EPA Filling for additional 2025 models (R1 Refresh) -- Dual Max, All-Terrain Dual Max, Performance Dual Max, and All-Terrain Performance Dual Max

Explain where you're even getting those assumptions? When did I ever mention 3x anything? Let's be real. If you were trying to be funny, that's fine, but given the situation of how lost some are regarding this topic, maybe it's best to not throw a wrench into this subject that some are clearly...
  8. Motor Failure on Cross-Country Road Trip

Holy moly. Are you serious? It's called humor. I've been here from the beginning, along with some others helping the OP and you come in out of nowhere with your sour and deranged attitude? Why? Just trying to lighten up the mood precisely due to the OP's situation. I think what you've...
  9. EPA Filling for additional 2025 models (R1 Refresh) -- Dual Max, All-Terrain Dual Max, Performance Dual Max, and All-Terrain Performance Dual Max

Thanks for sharing your real world experience. I too have experienced the same with the EVs that I've owned with and without a heat pump. It seems like for some who are so opinionated about a heat pump, the Rivian was the first EV they've owned so they lack any prior experience. There's...
  10. EPA Filling for additional 2025 models (R1 Refresh) -- Dual Max, All-Terrain Dual Max, Performance Dual Max, and All-Terrain Performance Dual Max

The problem is, there are a lot of people who have no idea how having a heat pump can be of benefit for those that either live in areas that get very cold and/or frequent the mountains (snow boarding etc.) where you would absolutely want a heat pump. There are too many know it alls stuck on...
  11. EPA Filling for additional 2025 models (R1 Refresh) -- Dual Max, All-Terrain Dual Max, Performance Dual Max, and All-Terrain Performance Dual Max

The point was that the current system is not a dedicated heat pump. Your original reply seemed to imply that you didn't know the difference between how the current system works vs having a dedicated system.
  12. EPA Filling for additional 2025 models (R1 Refresh) -- Dual Max, All-Terrain Dual Max, Performance Dual Max, and All-Terrain Performance Dual Max

You do realize that it's not a dedicated heat pump right? Big difference. To keep things simple, if you were to refer the current battery heating (only while driving) as a passive method (not as efficient), that is very different than having a dedicated heat pump to pre condition.
  13. EPA Filling for additional 2025 models (R1 Refresh) -- Dual Max, All-Terrain Dual Max, Performance Dual Max, and All-Terrain Performance Dual Max

I think I know where the problem is. My replies have been based on the context of this thread. It seems as if you're referring to other past conversations that I wasn't apart of. That explains it. If there are people who have stated "massive gains" etc. then I get it why there is confusion...
  14. EPA Filling for additional 2025 models (R1 Refresh) -- Dual Max, All-Terrain Dual Max, Performance Dual Max, and All-Terrain Performance Dual Max

Not to mention that you're completely forgetting the fact that without a heat pump you'd be charging much slower at a charger with cold cells, costing you more time on your trip. On the contrary, you do realize that the benefits of a heat pump helps improve the vehicle's efficiency and range...
  15. EPA Filling for additional 2025 models (R1 Refresh) -- Dual Max, All-Terrain Dual Max, Performance Dual Max, and All-Terrain Performance Dual Max

I agree that they didn't add it before due to cost savings. That's pretty evident. As for its benefits, it does serve a purpose for a lot of people. It's not a holy grail or a massive this or that. The simple fact is that it is beneficial for a lot of people in the northern colder regions...
  16. EPA Filling for additional 2025 models (R1 Refresh) -- Dual Max, All-Terrain Dual Max, Performance Dual Max, and All-Terrain Performance Dual Max

I think it's clear that you're over obsessing with the word "massive." Get over it. The simple fact is that a heat pump is necessary and useful for those in colder climates to get the most out of xyz as I've listed above. How hard is that to comprehend? You still haven't answered my question...
  17. New R1 Refresh spotted photos! [Updated w/ New Wheel Aero Covers pic]

The new Chevy Silverado's 200+kWh pack may light a fire for everyone in this space. That's the new Big Boy in town. Everyone else bows for when it comes to towing and range in the EV Truck space. Good for us consumers.
  18. EPA Filling for additional 2025 models (R1 Refresh) -- Dual Max, All-Terrain Dual Max, Performance Dual Max, and All-Terrain Performance Dual Max

I'm well aware of the video and have seen it. It appears that your assuming that all HVAC systems are created equal. They are not. What Tesla has designed is brilliant and very ingenious with their system. The heat pump is absolutely necessary in their system as you wouldn't be able to achieve...
  19. Motor Failure on Cross-Country Road Trip

Bellevue is farther; however, assuming that their travels were to head that direction anyway (based on the original post with heading west), I think it's best to stay on i90 and get closer into civilization. I've taken a lot of the boon dock back country highways in ID and it's not very...
  20. EPA Filling for additional 2025 models (R1 Refresh) -- Dual Max, All-Terrain Dual Max, Performance Dual Max, and All-Terrain Performance Dual Max

I respectively disagree. Heat pumps are not over-hyped for those who have real world experience living in colder regions. If it's over-hyped, then why is Rivian adding it in now? That's a large expense to just be installing it if it was a minor thing. If anything I would say that a heat pump is...
