I don't drive offroad (I got the R1S mostly for towing) so as soon as I got the car I replaced the AT tires with Michelin Defender LTX M/S (LT275/65 R20 126R E1 BSW). As noted above, there are now newer versions of that tire.
These are more efficient, smoother, quieter, and should last a lot...
I almost never use ADAS in my Rivian, so I can't tell if it made a difference or not. (ADAS doesn't work while towing, and most non-towing Rivian trips are very short)
I was going from Missoula to Great Falls - those are the places I charged.
BTW I've had my aero inserts for going on two years now, and everything has been fine - they don't rattle, haven't fallen out, etc. And I've been content with real-world efficiency consistently at least matching what the...
That's a good point; battery temps definitely affect efficiency - although the effect should decrease as the trip length increases and temps equalize.
My tests (see post 215) were about 116 miles each, and my battery temps should have been very similar for both runs as I hadn't just charged...
My 23 R1S isn't locked at home (it's in the garage), but recently it started making noises that sound like the suspension every time I go out in the garage with my phone.
Yes. As far as I know it will still kinda mostly work, but you don't want to rely on it as it might not be accurate. Which is kind of a big deal for ADAS; so the official recommendation is to not use it until you get the recalibration done.
My windshield cracked recently, and I got a 3rd-party replacement. I asked Rivian to recalibrate it...and the first appointment is 6 weeks away.
That's still frustrating, but definitely positive progress as my first appointment (in 2023, noted earlier in this thread) was 6 months out.
Other than the "surprise!" $40 recycling fee, Safelite was fantastic to deal with. Reasonably priced, very easy to schedule, very available, they arrived on time, clearly explained what they were doing, and the new windshield looks great.
Now I need Rivian to recalibrate. I tried scheduling an...
My R1S got hit by a rock this morning...there's now an 8" crack in the upper right that goes from the right edge to the top edge, so I need to get the windshield replaced.
Safelite will come to me for free and replace it in my garage. They have appointments as early as tomorrow (Saturday)...
It's true that not everyone has heard of the NACS network opening up, and that is a big change.
But it's also true that there's an awful lot of NACS stations that are still Tesla-specific. If I look at available Tesla stations in my area from my Rivian, I only see a fraction of the stations...
I believe Farley is correct that having the most range in the least efficient vehicles is a serious challenge.
But I also think Ford waited too long to secure battery supply, and now what they have is too little and too expensive - this may be more of a challenge for Ford than other companies...
I got mine a few days ago; I was hoping for a warm day but the forecast doesn't look promising so I turned on the heater in the garage, did some work on my bike and put these decals on.
They are exactly what I'd hoped for - thanks!
Costco was definitely an early player in the charging station game. The ancient charging stations were L2 inductive chargers. There was one at Costco's headquarters in Issaquah WA as well. The EV community was very appreciative of Costco's leadership.
Somewhere around 2011, Plug In America was...
Budman's data (and presentation) is fantastic. Note, though, that it's for an R1T...the OP asked about R1S. I would expect the hit to be smaller on an R1S because the bikes don't sit up in the airstream as much. But of course there's a large number of factors involved so don't take my word for it.
I haven't done any testing with a bike rack on my Rivian.
But many years ago, a bunch of Roadster owners compared notes after a group trip, and the energy efficiency of all the vehicles were extremely close together...except the one carrying a bike on a rack was 15% higher.
That's WITH a bike...
This is a tough question that I often struggle with. I've always loved driving small cars, and the R1S is way bigger than anything else I've ever owned.
I regret the R1S's size fairly often, like whenever I see a nice corner I could throw it into, parking or washing it, or looking at it's...
I did try the socks on my R1S with 275/65/R20 tires, and they did fit. But yikes! The link I provided was incorrect - size 74 was for my wife's car; I forgot that I ordered socks for both cars at about the same time. Sorry! My R1S required size 80. I sure hope nobody placed an order because of...
Here's the snow socks I got for my Gen1 275/65/R20 all-seasons: ISSE Truck Socks size 80 (link corrected; thanks Dave Cundiff for noting the original error). I don't think that will fit the 33"s though.
Note the price is in CAD.
