  1. Electric Lawnmower

I got my son started a 40V Ryobi system - two 4Ah batteries, a string trimmer and pole hedge trimmer. The mower is a fairly basic one, 21" and not self-propelled. But it's more than enough - it can easily do his grass (about 1/2 acre?) and always has enough power for the task. I am not sure...
  2. Unethical charging question?

If you need the full charge (or it's far more convenient because of an unusual charging situation), don't worry about it - charge away. If you don't need it, it's probably not a huge deal either way...but if it's not a large burden to me I try to treat things nicely, especially if somebody else...
  3. How to Improve a Gen 1 Rivian R1S’s Elevation Sound System After Update 2024.27.01 With Simple EQ Changes

I don't have a high-quality data source, or the best ears. But these settings are clearly an improvement! Things sound reasonable at both high and low volumes. Thank you; sake sent. I still prefer the sound system in my wife's Model X as I feel the bass more there. But it's not a huge...
  4. No right stereo channel after doing infotainment reset

I recently noticed the left channel was missing in my 2023 R1S when listening to the radio. The next morning it was back, though.
  5. R1S Quad: Yellow Silicone Hook Covers - Which One? ☝️

I got a yellow set from AO long ago. Great company and customer service. But after a week a kid stole one, so I just took the other one off and forgot about it for a while. Later I joined the Amazon Vine program (basically they give you free stuff in exchange for reviewing it; you also have to...
  6. Rivian preparing in-house V2H charger

Yup. This photo shows the two Ecoflow control units joined together - each can put out 30A @ 120V, but together they can put out 30A @ 240V. Behind them (not in the photo) are 4 more battery units. The original generator inlet was outside to accommodate a gas generator; but I had an electrician...
  7. Rivian preparing in-house V2H charger

I've done it with Ecoflows - a few months ago we had a ~9-hour power outage; I plugged the Ecoflows in to the generator inlet (240V 30A) and ran the house off of them. Then I plugged the Ecoflows in to the Rivian's 120V outlet to charge. (IMPORTANT NOTE from a few months later: 9 hours wasn't...
  8. Tesla Model X vs. Rivian R1S comparison review - from a real owner of both.

Yeah, thanks OP, this sort of comparison is often requested. I also have both. I've had my 2023 R1S for over a year, and my wife currently has a 2023 X - after having a 2017 X for 6 years (we've had several other Teslas as well). My take on the differences is pretty similar the OP's, especially...
  9. Towing a 17ft/2,200lb RV trailer with a Tesla Model X; reasons why an R1S could be a better tow vehicle

Sorry, that may be confusing...my R1S is Gen 1, so I was comparing a Gen 1 Large (131 usable) to a Gen 1 Max (141 usable). The difference between the two is much larger in Gen 2 - however, that is almost entirely because they shrank the size of the Large pack. The new Max only gained 0.5 kWh...
  10. Towing a 17ft/2,200lb RV trailer with a Tesla Model X; reasons why an R1S could be a better tow vehicle

Correct. I believe the Max Pack has about 10 more kWh usable (which is kind of disappointing given the price). The range ratings make it look like more than that, but I think they use different adjustment figures for the various packs to make the Max Pack look better. After towing a few times...
  11. Towing a 17ft/2,200lb RV trailer with a Tesla Model X; reasons why an R1S could be a better tow vehicle

Hi EVTowing (nice to see you on these forums too), Similar story here. We have owned all the Teslas, and my wife still has an X. We tow a Safari Condo Alto A2124 (different model than yours, but on the old forums we used to get pretty similar towing efficiency numbers IIRC). We used to tow it...
  12. New prospective R1S buyer (coming from Tesla Plaid) — Thoughts & Questions

Several of your questions I can't answer, but I'll have a go at the ones that I can: 1. My wife and I have had 8 Teslas, including 2 Model S; I have had a quad-motor R1S for over a year. She currently has a Model X. She wants to stick with her X; partly for the Falcon-wing doors that make it...
  13. Driving from South OC to Silverdale, WA. Am I crazy?

I did Seattle to San Diego in an EV in 2010, doing about 400 miles per day, before there was any DC charging. I have no regrets, although I wouldn't necessarily recommend that to everyone. Now that there's as much DC charging as there is? I've done about 40k miles of EV road trips using that...
  14. Transporting R1S to West coast

I'd echo iansriv's comments. While there hasn't been major damage, the cars I've gotten on open carriers looked awful. But closed carriers have been fine.
  15. 2022 R1S VS 2022 R1T Ride quality...where do we stand today after 2 years of OTA's?

Any ride quality question is likely to get answers all over the map, given that it depends on (among other things): R1S vs R1T, which wheels, which tires, which software version, how loaded the vehicle is, alignment, suspension height and ride settings, pavement type and maintenance, driving...

Any interest in racing in the sand? There's a sand drag race in Moses Lake on Saturday. Free to participate or observe. I know there will be at least one Ford Lightning, at least one Cyberbeast, and at least one custom electric sand buggy. It sure would be nice if at least one Rivian shows up...

  18. In search of the best hitch-mount bike rack for R1S

How many bikes do you plan to carry? I second the Quikr option (quikrstuff.com) that Flush mentioned. I posted some pictures and info on it HERE (post #7); and there's more in this thread we're in (posts 4 and 12, at least). It's great stuff...but really pricey. There are three more posts with...
  19. Towing + Efficiency: Please post your experience!

[EDIT: minor number updates to reflect a new trip on June 7 2024] We have now taken 6 trips towing the Safari Condo A2124 totaling over 950 miles. Generally cruise is set at 60mph on freeways, though typically a lot of backroads are involved too. We don't take it when temperatures are near...
  20. Got to love it!

We just took a fifth trip. This one was 180 miles under similar conditions to above (a few degrees warmer, a little more traffic), and similar results: 1.5 mi/kWh. The Rivian says our expected towing range at 100% charge is 194 miles.
