I bought the same power supply as Ratchickens. It arrived yesterday, and I got everything wired up today. I tested everything stepwise:
120V household AC to the power supply turns the light on and puts out a very steady 100V on the DC output terminals. Perfect
I dialed down the output volts to...
Thanks! The power supply you linked to (I assume you meant 90V rather than 19V; when I followed the link I went to a "new version" 100V unit, though you can dial it down 10%) does indeed seem like it would do the trick and is a LOT cheaper. The one I had linked to has more capacity and so...
This is absolutely the key.
There are MANY things to consider when buying a car. Features, performance, price, operating costs, resale value, aesthetics, efficiency, reliability, durability, capacity, service availability, etc. It's easy to look at any one of them and say "that sounds like an...
I have had this same issue trying to charge my EcoFlow Delta Pros over in THIS thread. Actually rather than shutting off the 240V output, it just ignores the 120V input.
So I've been looking at AC to DC power supplies; the Ecoflows can take up to 1600W at their DC input ports. Very interested...
Thanks for pointing that out. I had looked at EcoFlow's 800W alternator charger. I am sure the Ecoflow would be happy with the input, which is great. Downsides I'm considering:
It's not as much power as I'd like to charge a single Ecoflow; but it would overtax the car (and be pretty expensive)...
Thanks SeaGeo, there's several aspects I like about that idea:
They're inexpensive, and I could get one to make sure it works before getting a second one
My R1S has two outlets and I have two Ecoflow units so I could be constantly adding charge to both without having to monitor levels and...
I am still researching this; a few minor things I've found that I think are getting me closer to the goal:
XT60 cables are limited to 8A. But the XT60i can handle 15A. Which is important because the Ecoflow Delta Pro can take up to 15A (at anywhere from 11 to 150V, subject to the 1600W limit)...
I don't know the motivations of those that are proposing this; it could well be some sort of political trolling or attempt to "get even". But I sure hope not.
Here's what I hope they are trying to do: help manufacturers reach scale. Launching a new vehicle typically costs an automaker somewhere...
My power was out for 3 days. Not all went as I'd hoped, but I was able to use the truck to replenish some power banks that I was using to power the whole house like a generator. More details in THIS thread.
BTW the issues I had were with the power banks, not the Rivian.
I did look briefly at DC charging. I have two 400W solar panels, and can charge the Ecoflows with them (the Ecoflows can take up to 1600W from the solar DC input, which would be plenty). But at this time of year (especially with the weather that tends to accompany outages), especially near where...
Using a 3-prong to 2-prong adapter removed ground from the equation, and sure enough it makes a difference - my Rivian no longer shuts off its AC outlets when I try to charge my Ecoflows. But that doesn't help me, because the Ecoflows still won't take 120V AC input while doing 240V AC output (It...
Thanks for the input, gang. Our house was not drawing very much power last night, so I suspect the grounding issue is most likely the problem (for me, right now, anyway). I will look into the adapters.
But until then I will just use the Ecoflows to power the house during the day, and at night...
I bought some Ecoflow Delta Pros (not Ultra) about a year ago for the same reason. I have in the past charged the Delta Pros from the Rivian, but not while the Ecoflows were powering the house. There is a physical switch on each Ecoflow that says to take 800W of power instead of 1500W, and I...
We have been taking very few bike trips since we got grandkids...so our Quikr rack hasn't seen much duty since I posted those photos. But so far the rack still works great, and there has been no damage that I've noticed to the R1S - the rack is quite solid and doesn't wiggle around, so I don't...
Curious.
My first thought was that the original route might have more elevation changes, higher speeds, more expected wind or something that would make it use more energy despite being shorter. But the fact that your expected arrival SOC was lower for the alternate route makes that seem...
I traded my Model Y Performance for a Rivian R1S sixteen months ago. I made the trade mostly to get a better tow vehicle for our trailer. Rivian took the Y as a trade-in and gave me a great valuation for it (at the time; I am not so sure they'd offer as much now).
I like the Rivian. In addition...
That's me. I put the cover on twice, then decided it wasn't worth the trouble so I just leave it off.
I got an inexpensive hitch cover from Amazon and my life is easier.
This sort of thing bugged me too when we both sold our gas cars and switched to EVs 15 years ago, but has never been a problem and I pretty much ignore it now. The only thing I do is turn off climate control if I'm going to have a door open for a while.
I have the KAC rack I mentioned above specifically because it works on bikes with fenders.
I can make the Quikr rack work pretty well too; I just need to put a rag between the fender and the rack.
