I went for a demo drive in a UHF Gen 2 on Monday and the Comma is definitely the better system in many ways. Comma's take on cooperative steering is FAR better than Rivian's, and MADS mode makes the Comma much more flexible and usable on local roads.
Best practice is to remove the AXM power connection from the harness, and then use a fuse tap in the F33 fuse location under the passenger footwell. The procedure is detailed in the Installation Tips document...
Janka's version is not a magmount and uses a physical USB-C connection. Not the same at all.
Even so, magmounts aren't the culprit in my opinion. Comma issues on Rivian are usually caused by one of three things:
1. Power issue (AXM power connection)
2. Cable issue (bad OBD-C cable).
3. Wake...
Post a route with uploaded logs on the comma discord server. It's hard to diagnose from a video. I would also say that removing the AXM power connection on the harness could also potentially help. We know from experience that not only is the AXM very sensitive to power fluctuations in general...
They've always included the Comma Power as an optional power source. The AXM power connection is still present on the harness and should be removed as best practice to reduce the chance that could cause any issues down the line.
That's awesome! Looking forward to your reports once you have everything up and running!
Out of curiosity, did you order the Rivian-specific Janka mount? https://janquick.com/products/rivian-openpilot-quick-mount
And totally agreed, Lukas is great to work with!
When I talk about Gen 1 being abandoned, I''m talking specifically about its ADAS features. Obviously we are continuing to get other updates like the smart assistant. ACC is not ADAS.
