My EVs pick up screws and nails all the time. Just three weeks ago my R1T picked up two screws in one tire. It is a regular occurrence. I don't live near construction and sometimes it happens dozens or hundreds of miles away.
Kick ass of Rivian to replace the tire, even if they could have...
Wassym’s comments make sense when viewed through the lens of self-interest. He is in charge of software, it increases his power within the company if everything goes through his software.
When people are talking or sleeping in the car, or when you’re enjoying silence or music, voice control...
I am 1000% in favor of this. I don’t want Rivian to have a monopoly on the service of my cars. Nor do I want them denying borderline warranty repairs to save on cost, or hiding defects. Openness is best.
Scout Motors will be doing this, at least for areas far from a serviced center.
I find Rivian’s in-board software so bad I bought two addon screens for CarPlay (for both Rivians), and when I found better ones, I replaced them. Even if Rivian software were decent, there is the “overload” aspect. I run hard and fast 16 hours a day, double booked. I don’t need yet another UI...
I received my NACS adapter opt-in email in April and have yet to receive an adapter or a shipping confirmation email. Since then I have purchased a second Rivian and haven’t received anything: which is expected, as they’re deprioritizing second adapters to multi-car owners (even though I take...
I don't think it's a matter of seriousness, it's a matter of cost. Rivian loses a ton of money on each EV. There's nothing special about the design of Rivian vehicles. Any other automaker could make them. Rivian is just willing to lose a lot of money on them and competitors are not. Even Tesla...
Volvo has their own driver assist team that employs a hundred people. They also have LIDAR. Unless Rivian gets big enough to make that kind of investment, they are better off outsourcing it to Mobileye. But that means it won’t be any better than anyone else’s system.
I’m glad this thread exists, because it will be instructive to future buyers who will no doubt occasionally be jolted around by Rivian’s rather impersonal system. Also, visibility will force Rivian to improve. More information is always better, in my opinion.
I’ve had a dealer give away a car I wanted, even after I arrived at the dealership, but never one I’d already placed a deposit on.
It’s a shame some members are casting doubt on your story, like you have some ulterior motive. That makes absolutely no sense.
Again, thank you for informing us. I had two of the recommended filters (which I already owned) installed this morning. The gigantic HEPA filter is the best feature of the Model X and came in very handy during forest fires. I would love that level of air filtration in a Rivian.
Wassym is not an expert in human interaction design. Or cars, for that matter. From what I can tell, he is an expert in bugs. The reason buttons exist is so you can feel them without taking your eyes off the road. It is a safety issue. Voice doesn’t work in a noisy car with a bunch of kids...

"Pirelli has developed special versions of its Scorpion Verde All Season, Scorpion Zero All Season and Scorpion All Terrain tires (Pirelli's dedicated range for SUVs and pickups) to meet Rivian's...
Imagine selling an outdoor adventure vehicle where the default wheel size, with the most range, has no winter tire option. Oh noes, don’t have to imagine it, it’s screwed many people over. I, like the OP, had faith Rivian would eventually produce a winter tire for 21” rims. They’re an outdoor...
I would love an electric RV. Not doing to happen as most RV buyers are old and will die before the environment sours on them. They don’t care. Energy density of batteries is also not high enough. The only hope is hydrogen or renewable hydrocarbon fuels.
Knight Rider for me. I give Rivian an earful about their software, but this was really well done. I love it and would actually trade bug fixes for more of these.
BMW put a two cylinder motorcycle (scooter?) engine in the electric i3 for this purpose, and that’s a very small car. It slotted next to the electric rear motor. I used to have one, but that’s another story. Fun car to drive, but the BMW traction control was terrible on those wheels. Prone to...
