That sucks, I hope you are able to get better rates elsewhere. It sounds to me like the cost of insuring an new R1S is likely to be on the order of $1000/year more than what it costs to insure a new 4Runner. Even with mostly free electricity from solar panels, that takes a big chunk out of the...
I've heard similar on just about every insurance company, including Geico. If they all treat their customers poorly in at least some cases, which it seems they do, I'm going with the one that charges the least. And I do like that they (State Farm) have local agents who are very highly rated and...
I've had Geico for about 30 years and have never found another insurance company that could beat their rates, until now. They quoted me about $1000 for 6 months on a QM R1S - seems inordinately high to me. This is with a bunch of discounts, good driver, no accidents in many years, 2 cars on the...

"Here’s the point of today’s screed — What happened to Saturn could happen to Tesla, and Musk seems completely oblivious to that possibility. Recently he said Tesla is not a car company. What? All these years it has...
As TheWoo noted above, the bulk of the savings is coming from the $7500 tax credit that is applied to the lease as a cap cost reduction, but not applied to the loan.
On top of that, as I understand it, when you lease you are financing a much smaller amount - in your example it would be
$83,750...
1. I think you're leaving out the "due at signing" costs on the lease which include:
$895 Acquisition Fee
$1800 Destination Fee
2. On the lease you're only paying interest for 2 or 3 years, and only on the difference between the total cost of the vehicle and the residual value. On the loan...
Received a promotional email from Rivian this past Friday, April 19. Among various other things there is this news:
•
Leasing is now available in Maryland, New Mexico, and Virginia.
R2 reveal is today at 10am Pacific time, 11am NM time.
I would encourage everyone in NM to reserve an R2 and tell your friends about it. The leaked specs indicate it will be a great size for those who don't need a 3rd row, at a fairly competitive price.
But most importantly: the more...
I'm one of these for sure. No need for a 3rd row - reserved the R1S Quad motor when it was going to be available with two rows, explore trim, before price hike. I don't really need 4 motors, air suspension, or super fast acceleration. I just want a reliable EV with AWD/4WD that is large enough...
Glad to hear you've had a good experience with your Jeeps. I considered a GC 4XE trailhawk, but they were about $70K at the time, and I just couldn't justify that when the 4Runner was about $50K fully loaded and an R1S would have been about $75K.
Ancient and inefficient sure, but also extremely reliable and capable. Reliability is huge for me. 4Runners routinely last for 250-300K miles and they hold their value much better than an R1 (or any EV really) as far as I can tell. Living in the southwest I don't see frame rot as something to...
With the price/specs just leaked on the R2, it looks to me like a direct competitor with the 4Runner, although it is a bit smaller in length and height and will of course have way better performance.
I'll be putting in a reservation for sure. I'm really hoping it will be long enough to sleep...
Will likely put $100 down for R2. But actual purchase will depend on the price, reviews, etc and especially having a service center within an hour or so drive - currently the nearest one is 5 hours away.
Even with pre-order pricing. the R1S is more money than we want/need to spend on a...
We have a pre-price hike R1S reserved but we are planning to wait for some kind of announcement about a service center in NM before seriously considering taking delivery. Maybe just wait a bit and see what happens with the refresh this year and NACS port being added, etc.
They offered me free all weather mats to take delivery by EOY. Not exactly the most compelling incentive, but I do have the original pricing locked in. I'm in NM also and decided to wait till there is some word on a service center here.
Update: a couple days ago I got a call from Rivian, which I didn't answer. Shortly afterwards I got the below email. Sounds like they are really trying to hit their numbers for the year.
I responded asking when/where there will be a SC opening in NM and have not heard anything back yet. Still...
Again, I agree with your main point about the IRA drastically reducing the number of vehicles which qualify for tax credits being counterproductive.
The problems with the BZ4X and Solterra are many, including the range being abysmal compared to the competition. Hyundai/Kia seem to be selling...
Agree with most of what you said, except this part. The BZ4X is a non-competitive vehicle purely because it sucks, not because of the tax incentives in the US. Toyota produced a very sub-par EV and it is not selling well anywhere. They have the resources to do better, but so far they don't seem...
