  1. A bunch of used r1 in Montana?

I did slightly misspeak. Apologies for that. I forgot about disregarded entities. LLC's can be set up as disregarded entities for tax purposes. There are still requirements for it to be an actual business, but that's murkier and outside my expertise. The choice of venue for incorporation is...
  2. Choosing an R1T Spare

I bought an extra 21" wheel from a user on this forum for about half what I could get it from Rivian for. That's the best strategy.
  3. A bunch of used r1 in Montana?

I know some people in corporate law. Next time I get bored at a party, I'm going to start asking about legal nexus of a Montana LLC where all "operations" happen in a different state. As an LLC, it has to be a legitimate business with revenue and income. So where are the corporate taxes paid...
  4. A bunch of used r1 in Montana?

This is absolutely tax evasion that many people believe is legal because Montana says it's legal. It doesn't make it legal in your home state. Enforcement has been lax because it isn't a law enforcement priority and it's relatively high effort to prosecute. So people view it as legal because...
  5. Has anyone gotten the 2025.46 Update yet? Please tell us your location and date you received.

I just got my update. I was towards the beginning of the queue ~1 year ago, but have been towards the back of the queue for the more recent ones.
  6. Tesla sales suspension possible (by CA) due to use of "autopilot" and "full self-driving capability" marketing language

But who will think of the devastated Cybertruck owners waiting for delivery?
  7. F-150 Lightning EV canceled. To be replaced with EREV Lightning (700+ miles range)

I might be misinterpreting that article because it is a bit confusing. Or Ford's communications are confusing. They talk about the T3 being cancelled to go all in on their Universal EV Platform. I was under the impression a light truck was one of the first products to come out of the...
  8. F-150 Lightning EV canceled. To be replaced with EREV Lightning (700+ miles range)

Ford is still launching their next-gen EV platform with the small truck unless there's some other news I missed. I suspect a big factor killing the Lightning is that it doesn't share much in common with the new platform. There isn't much room for cost improvement and economies of scale if...
  9. F-150 Lightning EV canceled. To be replaced with EREV Lightning (700+ miles range)

I sort of get the logic, as their path to profitability goes through their new EV platform, and has little to do with the existing Mach-E or Lightning. But this new platform better be damn good, or Ford is toast in the long term. EREV's are going to be a dead-end. That R&D money would be...
  10. Can we upgrade R1 Gen2 to Gen3? Will R1s come with Gen3 next year?

I'm with you. I'm not in any rush to upgrade. Trading in an R1 is a $20k+ decision when depreciation, sales tax, registration, accessories, etc get factored in (depending on the details). There's not a single thing in the autonomy realm I consider to be worth $20k. Or even a $50/month...
  11. InsideEVs: 2026 is when the real EV war begins

That was a decent article. I agree with the premise, but quibble with the details. I also think this is a ~2026 to ~2030 story and not just a 2026 phenomenon. The things I believe are true about the EV market over the next few years: 1. The market will separate out the quality EV's from the...
  12. R2 has Lidar!!!! First look at windshield notch location on R2 (with R2D2 wrap)

Did they confirm that Lidar will be shipped on all vehicles whether or not the autonomous driving package is selected? I didn't watch the webinar, but I assume that they'll only attach Lidar to the vehicles with the $2,500 package selected, or sign up for $50/mo for a minimum amount of time...
  13. Rivian Autonomy & AI Day! Lidar, Hands-Free Driving, Rivian Assistant & more announced

Morgan Stanley downgraded the stock today. At least if I trust the Yahoo Finance AI summary of such things. This has more to do with the price movement than anything autonomy related.
  14. Rivian Autonomy & AI Day! Lidar, Hands-Free Driving, Rivian Assistant & more announced

As much as I try, I just can't make myself care about autonomous driving. I've used Autopilot on my wife's Tesla, and used FSD during their occasional free trials. It's fine, but nothing I'd pay a subscription fee for. Adoption is going to need to be pretty high for this to pencil out as a...
  15. Rivian Autonomy & AI Day! Lidar, Hands-Free Driving, Rivian Assistant & more announced

That's true for some people. There will always be some people that need the latest & greatest thing. The type of person that keeps a car for ~10 years doesn't really care. Neither do the people who don't care to pay some subscription fee for self-driving whatever. With Tesla's uptake of...
  16. What are Rivian's plans to handle service and support once production ramps up? R2, R3 etc.

New service centers are the key. More importantly, a lot of people need to be trained and hired. Hopefully a number of Tesla tech's are willing to jump to Rivian. That's probably the best pool of available talent.
  17. R2 Assembly Production Rate & Time Per Vehicle + Annual Capacity (and vs. R1)

Agreed. These numbers are only useful when compared against a comparable definition. Tesla and Rivian may base their definition on an different beginning and end point for completely valid reasons. What sub-assemblies are included in that start time? Does the finish time mean the time it...
  18. Gen 2 Tires on Gen 1 vehicles

I haven't measured mine precisely, but the Defender's seem to be close enough to the original tires for range. I'm sure it's different when measured closely, but I've never found a situation where I was running materially lower on charge than expected.
  19. Gen 2 Tires on Gen 1 vehicles

I don't know about the Gen 2 vs Gen 1 thing, but the 21" Michelin Defender's are a good choice that don't require new wheels.
