Strong agree. While other companies are taking a similar approach, I'd almost rather go back to a dealership than be locked into a vertically integrated service experience. Almost.
I don't think you're going to get the ~300 mile range in an economically feasibly package. That rules out a camper option.
But I think the market gets materially bigger for trades and longer routes with a 200-225 mile version. Particularly dealing with rural deliveries, cold climates, etc.
I browsed the VW financials and don't see what the author is talking about. I'm not as up-to-date on European financial reporting as US based, but VW looks profitable with positive operating cash flow.
Maybe they've committed to more investments & capex than they can swallow? That's a pretty...
Prices might get better and they might get worse. You might have better luck with incentives towards the end of the quarter if you want to bet on normal industry trends applying. But it's really an unknown.
Also consider whether the options you want are available today. You might get better...
Everyone has their own thresholds of what they worry about. While I get why people are worried, I personally think it's overblown.
Things that fail usually do so for two reasons:
1. Manufacturing defect.
2. End-of-life failure
Manufacturing defects usually become apparent in the first year...
You need and can install a Level 2 charger. There's plenty of options on the market, and plenty of threads on the topic worth searching. 50A circuits seem to be most common, but you can go up or down depending on panel capacity.
You're not doing anything with DCFC on a residential setup.
I was really struck by Canyonlands, largely because I didn't know much about it before I went.
We did a day in Arches, which was about what I expected (lots of arches). Then we drove into Canyonlands for a few hours not really knowing what to expect. We did a few short hikes with the kids in...
I've had hit-or-miss luck with Disney and Hulu. Some days they work and some days they don't. Depends on the gremlins mood.
Commercials seem to universally break either of them.
There was something in the release notes for the next update about making casting work better with some DRM. It's...
There's a lot of good stuff listed in the "Additional Improvements" as well. This should take car of a few of those minor gripes. My favorites:
-Auto cabin ventilation should theoretically make the AC situation in the summer much more bearable. And battery drain should be pretty low if it's...
While it might be a potential vulnerability, I don't see it as a practical one.
A prybar would still be the preferred route of a dedicated thief. Even then, that assumes a lot of knowledge of Rivian's, the desire to get into a trunk over the cab, and the time to do it unobserved. This is...
I thought the visuals were super cool the first time I saw them in a Tesla.
Over time, my opinion has changed to a "meh". I don't dislike them, but I don't rely on them for driving purposes. I occasionally glance at the blind-spot warnings on the screen, but that's about it.
I'd be fine if...
Complete speculation here.
I suspect Normal will be dedicated to US sales initially. For context, Tesla sold ~370k Model Y's in the US in 2024. I think Rivian can plausibly plan to sell ~175k/yr in the US.
Georgia is supposed to be R2 and R3. They'll probably set up GA for export variants.
I don't have a way to measure it, but I believe insulating my garage has a minor effect on efficiency for short trips.
I added R-14 insulation into my garage walls a few years back, and insulated my garage door. This was done for comfort before I owned an EV.
My garage doesn't stay warm, but...
Agreed. The R1T is in a different market with a different target customer. That's why I don't take these comparisons too seriously.
The Cybertruck is also a market of its own. Although I struggle to define their target customer without using highly insulting terms.
The types of customers...
This is huge!
I really hope it's able to tie to a membership though. EA pricing is such that it's hard to understand why someone wouldn't have a membership when using any meaningful amount of DCFC.
