One of my Rivian or ABRP feature desires is to make pricing more obvious in the navigation.
Maybe start with an estimated charge cost in the route planning section (some can be listed as unknown where pricing isn't available).
There's been a few times where I would have chosen different...
As someone who has worked in Silicon Valley (but not Google), take this with a giant truckload of salt.
The entire MO of Silicon Valley companies is to deliberately blur the line between what the product can do today vs. what the product will aspirationally do someday.
Initial launches are...
The electric outlets. I figured they'd be slightly useful but mostly forgotten when I bought the truck.
I use them all the time, and probably won't buy another car without them.
My truck has a dedicated electric kettle for coffee and a dedicated induction stove that live under the back...
Big picture success (a globally relevant and profitable car manufacturer) requires vision, capital and execution.
Rivian has the vision, no question.
They have the capital to get to the next stage of growth, albeit with some question marks on that DOE loan.
They've done decently well on...
Agreed. It matter less which tech provider they go with, as long as it works well. Heck, I think most customers would prefer a white-label type tech experience where they neither know or care what tech-giant is working behind the scenes.
Hopefully Google does a good job here. My only...
This is the right call, and it now makes sense why the text functionality has taken this long. This is a foundational thing that comes first.
Alexa had a lot of promise, but Amazon essentially abandoned the vehicle version of the product.
I'm not really up-to-date on what Gemini offers...
@Weber462 Thank you for starting this thread!
I didn't know anything about Plex yesterday, but you made me look it up. This is exactly what I've been looking for in terms of gaining control of my own content again.
I'm in the process of setting it up. It's not particularly Rivian related...
The R2 is designed to target the same price & vehicle size segment as the Model Y. The high level prices, specs, and size are pretty comparable.
There's no such thing as a car that fits everyone's needs. Some people will cross shop the Y and R2. Not everyone will make the same decision...
I just looked at Plex as a possible solution to other things I'm working on in terms of media.
It looks like you can use Plex with Alexa. This should allow you to control it from the truck with voice commands. I've done this with Pandora.
Give it a try and let us know how it works. I might...
I agree with the problem statement.
Having a decent way to play the audio I own is the mole-hill I will die on. I love the truck. Rivian is great. But feeling pushed into using streaming services that I fundamentally despise is rage-inducing for me.
I wouldn't list Plex as my preferred...
News media is a place where full enshitification has taken hold.
Very few media sources do reporting anymore. They mostly seem to copy/paste+editorialize+AI other people's work.
I'm making a point to pay companies that seem to be doing actual journalism. Some days it feels like an...
Agreed. Passenger front has the following benefits:
1. Front works way better when a trailer is involved.
2. Some parking spots can work as back-in, some cannot. For example, you don't back into a diagonal parking spot. All parking spots can be pulled into face first. Using the rear of the...
Ah well. I had hoped the charging port would have moved to the passenger front. But it is what it is.
I had really hoped the industry would standardize charge-port locations. Unlike gas pumps, there are reasons of physics and practicality to keep charging cables short and in consistent...
I've had my vehicle since June 2023, with 29k miles.
Service history shows 7 visits, although that overstates what I'd consider "Rivian" issues.
-The vehicle had some QA issues found after delivery. The AC was over-filled with coolant, a bluetooth module went out, and the mobile charger was...
This is great news. As the person who started the recent thread on the topic, this is exactly what I was hoping the outcome would be.
I don't want this type of thing to be in the news.
While I'd personally prefer a simple manual latch, an electronic latch is fine as long as there is a manual...
I agree it feels aggressive. However, I have faith they’ll get pretty close to 41.5k based on my career in corporate forecasting.
Reasons:
1. They probably already have a good idea on how October deliveries are going to line up. The timing between order placed to delivery probably averages...
