The new EA station there is a good one. At least I was happy with it. I feel Moab proper is pretty well covered.
I am looking forward to the RAN in Monticello if that ever actually happens.
It would be sad to lose the Lightning, but it wouldn't surprise me. I don't think they have a pathway to get the Lightning/Mach-E to profitability without a dedicated EV platform for them.
I think the GM trucks will stick around. They have enough riding on their Ultium platform that I think...
To be clear, this is Rivian focusing on one thing.
Rivian had IP that built for their main business, but had other potential applications. They are spinning them out into independent companies instead of building new lines of business within Rivian.
Trying to run them under the Rivian...
I hear that the new NACS standards are designed with future curbside charging in mind, with more options for "bring your own cable" style charge ports. This should work better with curbside chargers, where driving over the cable is a real thing.
I don't really know the details and the market...
Very few today, but there will probably be more in the coming years. I've stopped at a few curbside chargers in Kansas City.
The front-end also allows for chargers in diagonal parking stalls. Those are fairly common, and you don't back into those.
I know just enough about electrical to be dangerous (literally) and to sometimes say a combination of smart and dumb things about it.
The V2L solutions that exist today aren't really practical for a price/value standpoint. They're just stupid expensive and complicated compared to generators...
That's a damn good looking car.
I'm not looking for a new car in the next few years, but the R2 or R3 will be at the top of my list when it's time to say goodbye to the Tesla.
I'll still gripe about charge-door placement (passenger front is the most logical), but that's pretty minor in the...
I went to a "Cars & Coffee" event with my R1 last weekend. These events are fun. I enjoy showing people the R1, and seeing what other people bring.
I had one guy I'll call "Chris" come over from the classic cars section. Chris was a really nice guy, and very interested in the Rivian. He...
Agreed. They probably still have some decisions to make on what is standard vs a package vs an option.
I remember on the R1 when they couldn't decide what category tow hooks would fall into.
It also makes sense to release pricing right around launch to keep hype/anticipation/news cycles...
I have a Gen 1 quad, and haven't driven a Gen 2 or dual motor variant.
I'm happy with what I have, and have no interest in trading. The electric door locks on the Gen 2 are enough to keep me away from those. But I realize most people don't care about that.
If I were in the market again...
I've found casting to be spotty at best.
Sometimes one streaming service will work and another won't. There's very little consistency to the behavior though.
Most people don't care with oil at ~$60 per barrel. Most people will care a lot if oil goes back over $100 per barrel.
It's a cyclical market, and we'll see those types of extreme's again someday.
There's a few variables that matter:
1. A successful R2 launch, with enough demand to max out the Normal factory's capacity (~215k/yr across all Rivian models)
2. The GA factory still being roughly on track to hit prior guidance
3. Similar or increased confidence that Rivian has the ability to...
If you want to go beyond "China bad" or "China not so bad" narratives, there's the more important story of the future of electric vehicles. Sure there's subsidies. Sure there's deliberate unfair business practices. Heck, we've done plenty of subsidies here with less effective results.
From...
This was what I'm trying to figure out too. It's been 9 months since I've been to EA, but I remember having to plug in before initiating. Which doesn't seem like it will work.
Hopefully someone here tries it and reports back.
I haven't had a chance to try this yet, but have been looking forward to it.
Any idea how it would work with the EA membership? It's not intuitive to me how you would connect the two.
I'm in Denver, and highly recommend the truck. I'm admittedly biased. There's no other vehicle I'd rather be in at any price point.
I would hesitate based on your distance from a service center. Things will go wrong. Usually they're minor. But you don't want to drive 6 hours to service...
I haven't tried this since the Google Maps update, but I've had good luck with the "add charger to route" function. It seems to recalculate pretty well.
A couple other things that help me:
1. While I plan routes in full day segments, I set my nav for shorter segments. For example, I'll...
