I bet 2 years from now most Rivian customers will like the adventure brand, but rarely do anything they can't do with a Subaru. For most consumers, there are extremely diminishing returns after certain performance levels both on and off road. The Rivian is WELL in to the long tail of those...
I am 100% against "always on microphones" for privacy. I like the carplay usually is wired to a button in the car to press to activate it. With press to activate, I love it. So much better than taking your eyes off the road.
I work in the speech to text space. Apple's speech to text / voice recognition isn't great. Google's is excellent. Amazon can compete with Siri here in terms of accuracy. Then it is just up to the car software to have the ability to translate those words in to usable commands. I am not...
I am willing to bet 90% of complaints of lack of Carplay / AA will go away if they have 3 things:
1. Great navigation that make people NOT long for google / waze / applemaps.
2. Integration to more music services (Apple Music being the next largest marketshare)
3. Solid text/messages...
this review was excellent.
Also, he let slip a number I hadn't heard before at the very end: 40k pre orders. He didn't say if that was R1s and R1T or just the R1T. But that is the first number I have heard.
This article https://www.motortrend.com/news/rivian-r1x-jeep-wrangler/ states that the R2 series will not have quad motor. They might be wrong, but motortrend appears to have had the most access to Rivian so far.
I have nothing against small towns, but having a dual career family is hard in a small town, hiring young kids out of college and convincing them to move to places without vibrant night lives is tough, etc etc.
It’s not that there aren’t good reasons to live in these places, it is just that...
I had ben considering waiting for such an offering, but one of the articles said today that quad motor is going to be reserved for the R1 series. So while a slightly smaller R2S SUV would be a better size for me, I will probably go with the R1S if I go with Rivian. The quad motor aspect is...
Convincing people to live in Normal, IL might also be tough.
I would consider looking for a job there doing software if they were in a location I wanted to live.
At least one of the reviews mentioned that and said the engineers were planning to improve with OTA.
That said... there was a lot of things that were "being worked on" by engineers, or "just because it is pre production". They were all minor, but I got the distinct feeling they have really...
Exactly. I am worried FG + FE would be too much. So I was thinking of LA Silver, Limestone or El Cap with FG. Still 2k is steep for just a different color fake leather
In the ID.4 you can run car play full screen (on a good size screen, but not Rivian big) OR you can run car play in a smaller window. Rivian could have opted for carplay to run in a window on just a portion of the screen if such size concerns were an issue.
I doubt it was a technical or cost...
I have watched most of the videos now and read/skimmed many of the articles. My takeaways / remaining questions:
1. Forest Edge looks WAAAY nicer than it does in the configurator. I had been planning on a Forest Green / Ocean Coast R1S, but I might have to switch to Forest Edge (probably with...
The first time I owned a car that wouldn’t be classified as a beater I was 23. When I got it I played Radiohead’s Optimistic as its first song. It is now a tradition in every car I get.
it wasn’t my favorite song then and it isn’t now but it’s still good, and tradition is tradition.
I agree with your overall sentiment. I am not worried about the lack of a volume button though. Steering wheel audio controls are ideal for this and are present.
I do much prefer temperature up / down and vent placement to be actual buttons you can use without looking for them.
I also find...
Got another response from CS:
I think the agent has to have made a mistake when saying that you ACC is limited to certain roads, but they explicitly state that lane keeping is available anywhere. That is good news, if true. I am taking it with a grain of salt.
