For me it is 3 main features:
1. Text integration. Having the car read you your texts and being able to dictate replies is really nice and makes it so you aren't tempted to touch the phone while driving
2. 3rd party navigation apps. If Rivian's maps update for free and the navigation is on par...
I am still bummed about lack of carplay. Text / Phone / Music integration really works well with carplay / android auto.
With that said, those videos make the system seem intuitive, pretty and fairly snappy.
I don't even want a truck, I want the R1S, but I considered the R1T just for that kitchen I would use maybe 1 to 2x a year. So I hear your pain. Logic won out for me. R1S on preorder. I figure I can just buy a plug in induction burner to bring with me :)
In my experience, if two people at the same workplace tell each other their salary, at least 1 feels bad at the end of that chat, even if the salaries are set perfectly and justifiably. Transparent info on salary bands for a job title, promotion process, etc is better than open salary...
That sucks. Sorry about that. I would suggest everyone who doesn't fully trust their employer to ask what the salary range is for their job title. Ask how it was set and what industry benchmarks your company used to come up with that data. Good companies have answers for that and frequently...
My 2 cents: every experience you can have in a Rivian, you can probably have in another car. It won't be as nice, and it won't be an EV if you need something offroad capable today. But every amazing experience I have had outdoors I have had in a 25k Subaru or something similar. Stretching...
Most emergency braking systems also will be overrided when the driver presses the accelerator. If the driver takes active action the car lets the driver have control. I am pretty sure the R1T manual says that is how it works as well. So it very well could be driver error. It also could be a...
Slow is relative. In theory all L1 and L2 chargers are "slow". DC Fast chargers are fast. There might be a lifespan gain from using a slower L2 charger, but I am guessing it is pretty negligible.
FYI, I messaged customer support and asked them this:
Their response was pretty useless:
Totally useless response to direct questions. I responded pressing the matter to ask specifically if lane centering and ACC can always be used. My expectation is lane centering is a Driver+ only...
FYI, I sent customer service a bunch of questions about the R1S and in general got very little useful information back, here is what I got about 5 vs 7 seats:
My questions to them:
Here were their responses:
I had not seen the min width difference anywhere before this response. So the 5...
So, you guys have NEVER spaced out while driving and missed a turn or realized you were going the wrong speed? I am a very attentive driver who is over 40 with an accident free record who hasn't even gotten a ticket in almost 20 years, and I have definitely done these things. I am willing to...

1. For all my espousing the virtue of VWs solution, one pedal driving with strong regen is awesome off-road. It is basically hill descent control. Off-roading is a place where not having to switch back and forth between pedals is very beneficial and in my mind is clearly superior...
to be clear, both the system I prefer (VW groups)and the one pedal driving @ajdelange is promoting use regen for basically all braking.
With one pedal driving your kids might feel more car sick over the hurky jerky driving as you get used to it, but once you are accustomed to it you can drive...
This attitude does not help EV adoption. For me I will likely get used to either possible set up and it is unlikely to be the deciding factor in my vehicle purchase decision. I have a preference for the VW group’s method but it is a preference not a requirement.
However if you want to...
Only if I want the R1S. I don't need to get it. I can wait for other options. I haven't decided if I will actually buy the car or not. This issue won't fully decide my choice, but it will be a factor (along with driver plus, quality of phone integration, etc - I am pretty sure the on and...
I tend to use cruise ALL the time, so that is likely my way around what I find to be annoying 1 pedal driving. The computer is usually more efficient of a driver than humans (not all humans, but most)
@ajdelange and @eemri Thanks for your responses on the topic. I would respond to you both individually, but I feel this post from @mindstormsguy sums up my opinion well. I disagree with the notion that Tesla's one pedal system is inherently better. We all agree that coasting is thee most...
