  1. Are there any negative consequences to consistently charging at a lower amperage than your charger’s capacity?

Charging at a lower rate will generally result in more losses due to the vehicle systems running longer and the power conversion system being less efficient at partial loads.
  2. Dog Mode Improvements

I usually just press the dog paw under the HVAC menu next to the steering wheel heat control, but something that could be added to the quick controls could be nice to save an additional step.
  3. 20" Inch 20" Sparco Sterrato + Toyo Open Country AT EV 275/65/20 + Swap Wheel Settings

I think the main difference is the 20" All-Season in the 2025 list, otherwise the other options are the same between the years. The 2025 All-Seasons are 275/60/20, so about an inch less in diameter (33" tall versus 34" for the 275/65/20 All-Terrain options).
  4. Gen 2 Missing Door Handle Touch Sensor?

I spoke with service about it a while back and they also confirmed the push-to-unlock feature only works on the drivers door. I was expecting both doors to have the same functionality, which prompted my question to the service team initially.
  5. R1S stopped charging with DC fast chargers

I had this happen once on a road trip in 2024, third stop in at a RAN charger, it wouldn't initialize with any of the stations. Called Rivian support, they restarted the stations to no avail, a full reboot of the vehicle fixed it and it has worked fine ever since.
  6. R1S not being driven for 14-16 weeks - Tips?

L2 is fine, the key is to keep it plugged in and have the charge limit at or near 50% if it will be sitting idle for any length of time.
  7. Eliminating the charge port halo light was a bad call

When the switch to NACS happens, this will be a non-issue due to the self aligning nature of the design, but yeah, J1772 can be tricky in low light with the current Gen2 design. It seems to do the same as pressing the button on most EVSE handles, stops the charging and unlocks. Guess it would...
  8. Anyone else’s compressor running like crazy since the last update?

I wonder what the operating lifetime of the suspension air compressor is? If it is anything similar to the heat pump, which operates nearly continuously when the vehicle is on, then a few extra minutes a day shouldn't have any real impact on it's total lifespan.
  9. Dumb Spare Question - Does it come with a cover/tray?

Same upper tray with my Gen2 with the All-Terrain package, which I also have loaded with gear. Interesting that some are delivered without it. Maybe a difference in the All-Terrain package versus optional add-on?
  10. New Rivian OEM drawer installed on Gen1

It locks the rails so the drawer module can't be removed, the drawer can still be opened though. If it is unlocked, the entire drawer and rails come out, allowing the camp speaker or other accessory to be installed in it's place.
  11. Rivian R1T is first EV to cross the finish line of The Mint 400, a wild off-road race

Curious how the suspension held up after those ~140 miles, the bump stops sure got a workout.
  12. Air Suspension odd when parking

I see similar behavior when it tries to kneel on any type of incline. Earlier updates it wouldn't even attempt to kneel in my driveway, now it tries but ends up uneven and just seems to drop one side a little. This has the fun side effect of it shifting around for a while during the first...
  13. 2025 R1S Battery Drain

I wish the EPA ratings were communicated more clearly. The EPA range is a combined rating of city+highway test cycles. EV's are very efficient at converting energy into motion, so at low speeds where aerodynamic drag is minimal, most of the energy goes it to motion. At high speeds...
  14. Moby Dick - The Silverado EV RST FE Reviewed By Rivian Owner

You hit the nail on the head. For normal driving, the rate of distance added is the only metric that matters. If you have two vehicles that can replenish 150 miles of range in 15 minutes, one only charges at 30kW the other at 300kW, they both get you there in the same time, one is just...
  15. Edmunds' 2025 Gen2 R1T Dual Motor vs. Tacoma TRD Pro Off-Road Comparison

Appreciate the videos. That has been my experience as well, some wheel slip on the unloaded wheel but then the brakes progressively grab more until the vehicle starts moving or the opposite wheel also slips. I wonder if there isn't enough torque available or more than the system can transfer...
  16. Parking Brake needs immediate servicing! - Car would not shift into gear

I've had a few strange issues when the vehicle first wakes up. Holding the left steering wheel button + hazards does a full reboot and has cleared them each time. Luckily the issues seem to be getting squashed one by one each update, so less frequent in the past months.
  17. Edmunds' 2025 Gen2 R1T Dual Motor vs. Tacoma TRD Pro Off-Road Comparison

If you look at the situation where the left rear wheel is on the ground with the majority of traction and the right rear is in the air with no traction, applying full braking to the right rear would cause 100% of the motor torque to be seen at the left rear wheel. Only when the brake is...
  18. Edmunds' 2025 Gen2 R1T Dual Motor vs. Tacoma TRD Pro Off-Road Comparison

Edmunds just released their video comparing a Gen2 dual motor R1T to a Tacoma TRD Pro. Was surprising to see how poorly the brake torque vectoring was performing on the R1T, causing it to be unable to climb several obstacles. At 15:45 you can see the unloaded wheels spinning up quite quickly...
  19. Gen2 Heat Pump power consumption observation

Forcing fresh air can require substantially more energy versus recirculation. Think of a situation where the cabin is up to temperature. In that case you are taking something more like 65F air and warming it to 80F coming out of the vent, so a delta of 25F, just dealing with the heat loss in...
  20. Autonomy Platform - Improvements currently in use?

From what I have experienced, lane keeping is a bit smoother and better at keeping centered around corners on the interstate. You can activate the turn sign to initiate the automatic lane change, but no autonomy around the lane change decision, only driver initiated.
