I wonder if disconnecting (yes i know it has a cellular connection) the vehicle from wifi, will put it into metering mode and thereby limiting it's online activities.

Yeah I think that's something with the Pixel specific phones. I daily a Sony Xperia phone and have no issues using it as PAAK. Even using an older Samsung Note 20 Ultra or Samsung Flip phone on occasion doesn't yield any issues.

AFAIK, it isn't limited to Rivian. I've seen folks comment with MB and Kia EVs that they are getting similar charging speeds.
