$130 / yr growing to $150 / yr in the bipartisan house bill. It’s nearly twice as much as what gas car owners effectively pay.
The U.S. really hates EVs I guess
My take on why Rivian and Lucid are going nowhere:
- US all but killed big EV demand by getting rid of the $7500 credit
- NEVI funding has been entirely cut now, so no more federally subsidized chargers
- Regulatory credits are completely gone too—big part of gross profits for Rivian
-...
I hear you on the looks. I’m not saying it doesn’t matter. But for me, it doesn’t matter that much over the iX3’s design, in light of the much better core EV tech one gets. 4.5s 0-60 is also plenty fast for me.
Why couldn’t Rivian make the R2 have 800v, with more battery, and charge $5K more?
I guess the explanation is because this is a Rivian forum, but I’m surprised by how many people don’t think the BMW iX3 is the better value at these prices.
My iX3 configuration comes out to $68K with destination charges included.
My R2 configuration comes out to $61K before destination, so...
$60,990 for Catalina cove and white interior. Seems expensive. Does this include destination charges?
This can easily be a $70k purchase all-in, with taxes and destination
I don’t think there’s any reason for paying a markup. There will be many capable EVs hitting the market at the same time, and I think there will be a good number of R2s in the Rivian Shop soon enough
Yeah, but at the end of the day, it’s still built in 2018 EV standards. If the price were solidly under $45K, then imo that’d be fine.
But for $55K+, I’d want more modern EV tech. I’d pay $50K for a great Chinese EV now. When it comes to EVs, simply saying “USA built” is likely a negative
Yeah, but Rivian said lidar will be available in early 2027. I don’t think that’s happening if they’re still trying to decide on suppliers/manufacturing. It makes no sense to me, they’d switch supply processes just as soon as lidar is going out
The version I like comes out $68K, including destination and handling.
I’d wait until there were deals on it (maybe $60k?), but that pricing seems fair given the 20kwh larger battery and faster charging.
