Utah (especially Moab and Zion) and New Mexico (Raton) desperately need RANs (like 2 years ago).
Agree, but at the same time, such long distance road trip scenarios are only a sliver (<5% in my case) of driving life/miles for most people. For 95% of my driving, EV is still a vastly superior choice. Everyone's usage is different though, which is why we need choices (ICE, EV, Hybrid, RE), and...
Plan, plan and then plan some more. Make sure you have 2 options for charging at each stop, one primary and one backup (even if slower). Use Plugshare to find charging locations and plan your route accordingly. Try to stay overnight in hotels that offer EV charging (even if you have to pay for...
Tesla/Musk pulling up the ladder behind them seems to be even scummier to me. Tesla benefited massively and owes a significant portion of its success to tax credits. They benefitted another order of magnitude when the 200k cap was removed. Now that they've reached scale (and then some), pushing...
I DCFC only a few times a year and hence much of the video isn't very relevant to me. However, in terms of what impacts me everyday, I very much second Kyle's observations on the Gen2 Rivian "Premium" Audio sounding like "mush'. I own both Gen1 (with Meridian) and Gen2 (with RPA), so I have...
The only benefit is a smaller, lighter cable/port to deal with. Using a NACS cable and port was a much more user-friendly experience for me, just from a physical plugging-in POV. CCS cable and port are horribly bulky in comparison and I often wonder how it even came to exist ?. I can't wait for...
On an unrelated note, does anyone know if SOS calling requires Connect+, or can I assume that's working even if I don't have a subscription? That's one feature I can't quite test to find out ?.
Curious to know people's thoughts on the leadership churn at VW, and Kjell Gruner (ex-Rivian) taking over. Is this good, bad or neutral for RIVN?
There was some chatter earlier that Gruner left Rivian coinciding with the motor winding supply hiccup, so it is interesting that he's now at VW...
Can you check from the app if it is sleeping at all? Also, try turning off all proximity unlock (fob and phones) and check if that helps. I'd open a ticket. I had similarly large VD (6% over 24 hours) on my Gen1 and they said the body control module was waking up frequently and also suspected a...
I'm noticing the below after a recent trip to the Service Center.
After I lock the vehicle with my key fob, the gear tunnel doors and frunk are able to be opened using their respective buttons on the body of the truck. The door handles remained locked. The tailgate and tonneau cover also remain...
For EVs to go mainstream, this has to happen one day or the other. EVs need to compete with any other form of propulsion on their own merit. If EVs need to be so good as to win the uphill battle against the credits lobbied to big oil, so be it. EVs will come out much stronger at the end of this...
I agree it's fair game. Tesla owes a large part of its existence to these credits. My concern would be whether these credits will now go away to the detriment of newer entrants.
RJ did mention that for R2/R3, they're aiming to be profitable and price competitive with ICE regardless of incentives. So I'm confident they had this outcome built into their modeling. That said, without achieving profitability soon, Rivian will find it hard to survive as an independent entity...
If Rivian used the word "occasionally" I'd have been perfectly fine with it. However they don't, and recommend charging to 100% period, and claim that this benefits regenerative braking, which seems odd.
Not directly related to OP's question, but Rivian actually recommends 100% for LFP/Standard. I don't quite understand how that's beneficial for regenerative braking, since from Large pack my experience is that high SOC limits the amount of regeneration. Does anyone know why Rivian recommends...
