Unfortunately I predict another wave or two of layoff’s are in Rivian’s future. The R2, Rivian‘s Model 3 volume product, is still a long way off and they are burning through billions of dollars.
The latest news about Rivian‘s troubles isn’t helping resale values.
When I purchased mine in December of 2022 I took it down to CarMax within the first week out of curiosity.
Their purchase quote was $83k.
My top two R1T complaints are:
1) vampire drain
2) loose feeling front end
Every time I hit a bump it feels like the front end is going to fall off. It’s very disconcerting.
I notice that resale values on used R1T’s are dropping fast. I monitor every Cars & Bids and BAT Rivian R1T auction. Mid...
The next 18 months are going to test the company, its CEO and the leadership team to the core. They are about to enter some very choppy waters. Let’s hope everyone has their life vests on.
It appears that Rivian is circling the drain. If the R2 is not a bonafide home run it may be the end of Rivian. it will interesting to watch their finances for the next 6-7 quarters.
The premium priced automotive landscape is saturated. There are only so many affluent buyers at the $70k+ price point.
Its going to be tough going for Rivian until the R2 comes to market.
I can’t wait to see the dashboard on the new Scout. Physical buttons will be welcomed by the typical car buyer. I feel the car buying public is burned out and frustrated looking for commonly used items in a display screen.
Unfortunately I suspect that 98% of Scout’s purchased will never go...
If were ready to purchase an R1 I would put my purchase plans on hold. Rivian has many, many improvements coming later this year to the R1. Simpler electrical architecture, battery pack updates, etc.
The IL assembly plant is rumored to go down in April for a couple of weeks to facilitate the...
Yes, I plan on placing my deposit on reveal day. This R2 should be stiff competition against the best selling Model Y.
If priced competitively the R2 should be a home run. The only thing holding it back would be the spotty service center coverage in many parts of the country.
Great job! As Model Y owners we have to agree that Tesla knocks their sound system out of the park. I read that Tesla poached a bunch of Bang and Olufsen sound engineers early on.
This photo illustrates why Rivian will be upgrading the old school electrical architecture under project “Peredine“...
Great review and write up.
I test drove the refreshed Tesla Model 3 two weeks ago. The overall refinement to the car was extremely impressive. Quiet, great ride and excellent fit and finish. I loved the new LED ambient lighting strip that runs throughout the cabin.
We were so impressed that we...
Offering 4 different battery packs in their R1 pickup/SUV is complicating the manufacturing waters. I can understand the move if they are software limited however.
The battery pack selection has now grown to four. Standard, Standard+, Large and Max.
I don't see the $70k version accelerating R1 sales. If I wanted an R1 I would wait for the brand new electrical architecture coming out soon.
Non Tesla owners will be paying a premium to charge at Supercharging stations.
The recently passed Infrastructure Act is funding the construction of charging stations across the country. The government is even installing them in low income areas where BEV ownership is extremely low. We are also...
