I believe this issue has been elevated to Rivian's engineering team and they are currently working on a fix.
My guess is that Rivian has defective half shafts that aren't being manufactured to Rivian's tolerances by their supplier.
It's great to hear that the company is being proactive and trying to engineer fixes. Rivian wants a customer for life and are apparently bending over backwards for most owners.
All of these are not a surprise given the R series is their 1st vehicle to market.
Bottom line? Rivian leadership needs to have their design team use an efficient approach on all parts for the upcoming R2 if they want to survive. Kind of like the KISS approach. Using 3-4 similar but different seat bolt covers is rediculous.
WIMPY!!!
Go with a 1/2” thick HD 5’ x 7’ trailer mat that’s wide enough to cover the entire bed. Bonus: you will have enough material left over to place a nice rubber mat in front of your rolling toolbox in your garage.

This is the video that I have been waiting on.
I have been super curious about the Bosch drive units. It’s my #1 favorite Monroe & Associates YT video by far. The presenter did an outstanding job speaking, showing the competition, etc.
I forecast that Rivian will offer an over-the-air...
Thanks for posting. I am buying this mat today! This mat is definitely HD at a 1/2” thick.
The cherry on top? Free shipping on the 111 pound mat. Shipping isn’t cheap, I don’t know how they do it.
Coupon code “wadzup” will save you another $7.50.
The “all in” price came to $153.53.
I would have taken a fresh replacement truck in exchange.
Compensation? Now you are pushing your luck. First year buyers from a brand new car company can expect issues. It’s called the early adopter tax.
Damn! Talk about bad luck.
Monroe and Associates just posted a YT tear down of the R1T Bosch motor drivetrain. It looked pretty robust but it was very interesting how the dual motors share one inverter to convert DC to AC to power the motors.
Very few will be manufactured. Economies of scale will never be reached with the low production numbers. I don't see how this will be priced under $100k.
Belonging to an auto forum is like a double edged sword. It makes members think they every vehicle rolling out of the assembly plant is problematic. Happy owners rarely post and majority of owners don’t belong to an online brand specific forum.
Rattles and squeaks on a brand new vehicle are a huge pet peeve of mine.
I think we got a Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday built 2021 Tesla Model Y. Zero squeaks or rattles even after 26k miles.
