It's really bad. I am going to press Rivian hard to fix this at my upcoming appointment. So glad to hear stories of people having a great experience. Gives me some hope.
You just stopped driving it all together?
I mean, I'm with you on the noise. I don't want to drive mine anymore, either. Its embarrassing when everyone asks what's wrong with my expensive truck. Service won't do anything, except maybe replace the jounce lines to help with the squeaking.
I just got back from Hawaii, where I rented a Wrangler Sahara. It was a little "squirrely" at highway speeds (especially with the soft top and some strong cross-winds on the island), but I would say it is 10x better driving than my R1T. It was refreshing driving a vehicle that didn't sound or...
Hello all,
Now 18 months into ownership, my 2023 R1T continues to develop new clunks and rattles under normal driving. I have the jounce chirp hopefully fixed with an upcoming service appt. and TSB in hand. However, the chirp is actually my least concerning noise. In the video below, listen...
That is great to hear! Unfortunately for me the jounce squeal has been downgraded to the lowest now on my list of concerns about the suspension. I'm going ahead to get the jounce line fix in November, but my truck will still sound awful due to the noisy dampers and loose half shafts.
Thanks for the ideas everyone. The professional audio shop sound dyno has crossed my mind. I called and its about $150 per door. I just want Rivian to look at this first and provide their own insight. It sounds terrible, but honestly this is lower down on the list of problems. My thought is...
From day one of ownership (June 6, 2023), I have been plagued by rattles and squeaks from the suspension system. I get a ton of "Hey, cool looking truck. What is wrong with it?" I know I am not alone in this.
One thing I've heard as a solution around here is the sound system. I love music...
I feel like this is the sound I am hearing. This plus the distinctive jounce squeaking. There are honestly so many noises happening its tough to get one's brain to single out all the nuances.
That's fair. When I was mentioning bad engineering I was thinking of things like the jounce lines, and how they squeak on almost all G1s I've ever seen. Other suspension issues might be from assembly or even down-right bad luck.
I think there are clearly issues with the half shafts where they connect with the drive unit. I have a lot of play in mine and the sound it makes sounds like everyone's videos. I bet if the splines are greased up, it may eliminate the issue temporarily, but the design is still bad. Need a...
I had this happen early on... Locked out of my truck and all that. Turns out it was a faulty sensor in the driver's door handle that had to be replaced. One check for this: when the issue occurs, does your air compressor still work? Or is it without power?
The air compressor is tied in with...
I think I hear the jounce squeak and also that pronounced spongey sound when you go over the speed bump. Not sure if the speed bump is the jounce, or just the sound of the dampers.
That's a bit disheartening that the replacement of the halfshafts and hubs didn't fix it for you. Excessive play seems to be and issue with many early R1Ts. Not sure where you'd go from there. Maybe an issue with the front dampers?
Sounds very similar to my rattles and clunks. Dampers, half-shafts, and jounce lines. My goal is to get all these replaced. Also, if I have a welded subframe, I want the new cast one instead.
Here's my suspension video:
Thank you for this. Its hard for me to tell if my rattle is damper related, or part of the well known half shaft issue. I can make a similar sounding rattle by shaking the half shaft back and forth near the drive unit.
