The squeaking used to be my biggest complaint, suspension-wise. Now the rattling and knocking sound is my main concern. I could even probably live with the squeaky jounce lines. The rattling makes my truck sound like its about to fall apart at any moment.
I took a quick video of my suspension noise the other day. It's atrocious. You can hear 3 distinct sounds:
1. Jounce line squeak we've been discussing
2. The infamous "tock" (2 loud clicks about 1/3rd into the video)
3. Rattle sound from the front suspension, possible half-shaft play?
I'd...
Ah yes, the never ending stuff, it seams. If I can get the suspension issues worked out, I might take the truck into an audio shop and get dynamat installed all up in the dash and doors. Get some pros to really seal it all up tight. They quoted me about $150 per door. Might be worth it...
That's great to hear! It clearly seems like this is the fix.
When you say "intermittent rattles" are you talking about suspension rattles, or interior dash/door stuff?
In the 13 months of ownership, my R1T has been in a service center for nearly 2 months, all added up. Here is what I've dealt with in year 1:
1. Door PAAK, Key sensor failed and replaced (locked out of my vehicle). Now the door rattles like crazy, and they even found tools they left inside...
So the updated jounce lines are anticipated to fix 2 known issues:
1. Squeaking/Chirping noise on uneven roads
2. Probability of leaking/failure due to overextension of air suspension in off-road modes
Is this reasonable to expect?
Wow David! I had no idea these lines were a risk of anything other than that annoying loud squeaking noise. Especially concerning an apparent issue if using the height adjustment features...the truck was supposed to be designed for that. But it sounds like that is putting stress on the lines...
Interesting! Thanks for that insight. It almost reads like a sales-person script, like "if they say they already have enough tupperware, show them that our product can withstand an impact from a car."
So this squeaking sound that all the early R1Ts seem to have, you think Rivian has a known fix with replacing the jounce lines, but they are keeping it on the down-low because literally everyone is going to demand this fix?
I know the sound doesn't pose any safety risk. It's not something...
This is interesting. Like above, the squeaking was explained to me as an improperly sized orifice that regulates hydraulic flow back and forth. I wonder if the new lines you had installed are better engineered. All Rivians I've ever been in have the same squeak. Some louder than others, of...
Any updates on this MPP product? I had the comfort coilovers on my Tesla M3P and they were great. I'm really interested in what these do to ride quality and suspension noise on the R1T. I really hate how noisy it is. Sounds like the truck is going to come apart going down these city streets.
I'm really considering and watching carefully the feedback from the G2 R1T on this forum. I have had countless issues with my R1T in the first year. Spent almost 2 months in the service center when all added up. The suspension feels and sounds like the truck is going to fall apart, the sound...
Whoa... that did NOT show up for me when I tried a short spin around the block last night. Only display for me was a Rivian logo and cameras when in reverse. Will try again when I get home from work. Good to know!
Why would Rivian tell me to operate my truck as normal?
"In most cases, the rest of your vehicle systems remain functional, and you can continue to operate your Rivian."
It is very illegal in my state to operate a vehicle without a working onboard speedometer. How on earth can they make this...
