My sub-10k-VIN 2022 R1T is in for tire rotation + inspection + service bulletin work, and I made sure to mention the "clunking"/"tocking" sound in the ticket. They had a tech ride along with me as soon as I dropped it off, and as soon as he got back in, he told the service advisor they were going to replace the half-shafts and "perform a TSB" - presumably the one mentioned in this thread recently about bolts.

I too noticed the cold weather phenomenon with my QM R1T. My theory is the colder the temperature the thicker the lube which reduces the play/gear lash. Of course Spring ultimately returns with higher temperatures and you are right back where you started.

I've also noticed a reduction in the clunking/rattling suspension with the arrival of colder temps.

I've got the exact same stuff. Some rattles, some clunks. Tough to capture on video. Had any work done on it by the SC?

Uneven surface clunk = dampers
Chatter clunks = Half-shafts

I heard a lot of damper clunks in your video.

Swapped service spots with wife’s R1S. It goes in for the clunk on. 11/11

Kind of have a feeling my recent 'clunk-sensation' coming around 14k miles on the R1S is this item too... comes and goes. Seems like for me it's only on the front left?

There's no safety concern here, purely the OCD annoyance of this clunk sound right?

Agreed. I’ve had mine forever. Front left is most prominent.

I don't expect anyone to successfully get rid of the half-shaft chatter.

Only when they had low miles. I drove two at the SC when they told me they all sound like mine. One with 3000 miles had no chatter. One with 6000 was starting to sound similar to mine. The tech that rode with me said see, they are the same and I said, uh, no. Very different. They don’t know how to fix us outliers.

I truly believe there will be a fix out at some point. They would be best just replacing the parts as a customer satisfaction campaign and nothing more.

My girlfriend doesn't focus on the noise and would never bother Rivian over it. I'm thinking a certain percentage of owners are just hyper focused on issues like this, myself included.

Off-road it clunks like mad. I think the dampers are probably the worst offender. On a day to day basis the half-shafts annoy me the most.

I have 32 months left on my lease. Right now I'm kind of wondering if I should be careful about loading too many miles onto it. If they have a fix for the half-shafts, then I might just buy the lease out and pile the miles on. If they don't have a fix, I'll almost certainly trade it in. That's the gamble right now.

My present DM R1T (4,000 miles) is absolutely quiet. My prior LE QM began to develop a number of significant front drive line noises at 3,000 miles. A big difference between the two vehicles.

What's weird is that the SC advisor and tech treated me like I'm crazy and it's the first time they've heard of this issue... PHX SC.

I wonder how many times they practiced this routine in front of a mirror.
