And if I was an evil little man I'd say, "Sure!" and then put in place a sliding scale, the less you drive, the more you are charged per KWh of use so that at the end of the day, if you drove less, or more, I still get the same amount.
...if I were an evil little man...
The other issue is that "Miles per minute" thing doesn't really address the white elephant in the room... 80%+ battery level. If my wife plug in her EV at 75% and wants to hit 100% before a long leg of a trip, and finds out that she's not getting 140 miles of charge in 20 minutes (more like 40...
Yeah, I can see the appeal of "by the mile" but I can also see why Rivian would be like "yeah, no, fuck that, we want your $$..."
I AM curious what the cycle is on these subs. Is it month to month, quarterly, or annual.
I'd assume monthly (would suck to pay for a year sub and then sell the car...
Correct.
The "Free" version will still use the hardware (Cameras, Radars, Ultrasonic devices, etc...), but the software for the "cool shit" will have a pay wall, that once you sign up/pay for, will flip a bit and enable additional features in your Truck/UI/Phone.
Edit: And Tesla is the exact...
Honestly, I'm not tooooooo crazy worried about this. I don't drive long distances that often, and when I do, I try and make sure my end points have chargers I can use over night (or that I have 150KW+ chargers along the way).
If the Tesla SuperCharger network truly does open up, then this issue...
If they are going the same route as Tesla, you will have a free version (think AutoPilot... every Tesla has that for free) and a "Premium" version (think FSD).
This makes a TON of business sense though. Take your $10k-$20k battery off your hands for free, and then use it/sell it to power providers as part of a capacitor network (like Tesla is doing).
Or, hell, recycle it for the valuable materials in partnership with Redwood.
This is... definitely... a suck salad with crispy bits of shit sprinkled on top. It means with my 180KWh battery pack, my ass will be charging a good bit longer to get to 80% on the fast chargers.
I did note on the Colorado trip videos, they were referring to "Miles gained" and no longer...
Some states made "Tesla only" agreements. All others like Fisker, Lucid, Rivian, etc... were left out (probably because they didn't really exist at the time).
I really hope these stupid ass laws change.
Dealerships (legacy) offer me nothing but hassle and annoyance in my experience.
I'd wager that we will all get a "basic" version on Driver+, you can subscribe for "Enhanced Mode"... it sounds like the Tesla model. You all get AutoPilot (AP), but if you want FSD... you need to cough up the cash. And it looks like they are going the Tesla model there as well with a...
In line with Tesla.. and not shocking.
I honestly expect any vehicle manufacturer with two brain cells, to offer the cash sink that is developing an actually "good" autonomous driving solution as a subscription service. It's post purchase cash flow... why wouldn't you?
Oh that sucks... not a...
I guess here is the key question: "How much information is needed from the manufacturer to answer this question?"
They have already fired off an estimate that an 11,000lbs trailer will drop you by "around 50%".
Do they need to break that down by "Shape of trailer"? Do they need to break that...
Like what?
A break down by weight of your trailer, the drag coefficient, the % grade you will go up, the temperatures outside, current weather conditions, how many axels you have on the trailer, how well lubricated those bearings are on your trailer, and how heavy of a foot you have...
Bingo for me.
Camping (or rather the prep for) can suck. Where as filling the tank with water, clicking the three modules in place and tossing the IceCo Cooler in the back with the tent, sleeping bags and such in the frunk... bam.. done.
