Based on my experience with a Model S (7 years now) using resistance heat for the cabin will be a definite hit, heated seats much less, and thing like the entertainment system, lights, etc are trivially small and can be ignored.
A much bigger potential factor is increased rolling resistance...
Wow
I just received an October-December 2022 window for an early October 2019 R1S order in Tennessee, which means that people who ordered six-months ago will be taking delivery before I do.
the only reason I didnāt get a Launch edition was that I was holding out for the Max Pack, which...
This makes more sense.
i started thinking, and itās been at least 10 years since I did brakes on a car. For the last seven, my daily driver has been a Tesla Model S.
I do have to make sure I use the friction brakes after driving in the rain to clean rust off, but at the current rate of wear...
Starting at the top of a hill with a full battery and a full load would potentially be an issue, but Iād consider that an edge case, easily mitigated by planning.
if you find yourself on the top of a mountain, thereās no reason to charge the battery to 100%.
if you stop halfway up, charge to...
I havenāt seen ceramic brakes mentioned, and wouldnāt expect them to be much use for an EV.
The Rivian is a very heavy vehicle, but like other modern EVs the regen means that brake requirements are actually pretty modest.
AFAIK the real advantage of ceramic brakes (apart from bragging rights)...
I've done exactly that a couple of times in a Model S, summer camping when weather moved through. My tent is much roomier, but if it's very muggy or there are thunderstorms, an inflatable mattress in the back of the S is very comfortable. Running the AC all night during with intermittent...
I've been driving a Tesla for almost 7 years, and agree with the above comments that in practice it's a non-issue. The very rare times it's occurred have been when charged to 100% for a trip (which I don't need to do now that the supercharger network is built out) and in very low temps when the...
Wow
That is serious price gouging, preying on the ignorance of people new to EVs.
My NEMA 14-50 outlet is about 20 feet from my main breaker panel, and 7 years ago I spent I think about $300 having it installed.
There is -nothing- exotic about this circuit or the charger. It is the same...
The āwhite gloveā option isnāt sustainable, but is probably appropriate out of the box.
When I bought my Tesla model S, there wasnāt a ābricks and mortarā Tesla facility within the carās range (fhe closest DC fast charger was almost 300 miles away).
I had a few warranty issues, they brought me...
I donāt think we can generalize much about electrification from the leaderboard.
That was my first thought as well, but upon reflection the Rivianās advantage is primarily the four motors, and the fact that it doesnāt require complex mechanical parts (lockers, disconnecting sway bars, etc)...
Checking just now shows them in 3rd place with 660 points (72% of theoretically possible)
First place is at 688 points (75%)
They appear to be closing the gap a bitā¦
Hearing that it was a different part last year is comforting, also that they planned to strengthen it.
This type of mostly unscripted ātestingā by people outside the company is hugely valuable, and can provide insights that would take years otherwise.
i would love to see Rivian competing in...
Iād missed (or forgotten) the failure during last yearās Rebelle rally.
Motor Trend reported a broadly similar problem (failure of one of the front hydraulic struts) on the second leg of the TAT trip. No way to know if itās the same problem, or if last yearās issue was the same.
it is a bit...
One think I think that hasn't been discussed is presbyopia--the need for bifocals or reading glasses as we age.
The most frequent long driving trip I make typically ends in the dark, on rural two-lane highways that are poorly lit. The traffic aware nav will change the route from trip to trip...
