!
Believe me, I've considered it!
Will have to wait and see how Rivian impliments it, but I would think the same speaker that does the lock sound also does the low speed sound. Not sure I would want to give that up.
Hopefully we can just pull a fuse(or put in an already popped fuse) like I used to disable the airbags on my ranger when off-roading.
Unlikely that it is a fuse... probably driven directly by a DAC and possibly a pre amp designed into a circuit board given their use of technology. The power to drive a speaker is relatively low that a fuse isn't necessary unless you are worried about shorts to other higher power wires.

Maybe roll your own? Quacking duck, honking goose, bugling elk snorting whitetail, etc.

It's a fuse in the Chevy Bolt, but of course that doesn't mean others are the same.
My thinking is that the legacy makers try to reuse what is in their parts bin (part of the issue with the current automotive chip shortage is that they use chips that were designed in the 90s...).

For a clean sheet design, makes more sense in my mind to limit the total number of discrete parts.

But, you do have me wondering if Rivian has any fuses. Don't remember seeing any in the owners manual, will have go take a look.

I want my sound to be playing cards on bicycle spokes.

Wonder if it’s something that can be disabled when doing the type of trails they did in CO.

Just the sound of a guy in a public bathroom stall nervously clearing his throat to let the guy that JUST came into the bathroom know, that yes... this stall is occupied... emanating from your R1T as it rolls down the road.

Last night I rolled my window down while driving my ID.4 at slow speed, and it was quiet enough that I wonder if people just aren't noticing it thinking it's l. Which would be great.

I could have sworn I heard it in one of the videos and it was a kind of subtle "white noise" sound like the Tesla 3/Y, which I'm fine with. I do hope you can disable it for off-highway use, even if it's geofenced. Don't want to be playing a jingle while I'm supposed to be enjoying nature.

I hold out little hope of being able to turn it off. Pretty sure it is a law that it can't be. Not positive about that, but I read it on another forum and if I read it on the internet it must be true.....

Section S8 of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 141 prohibits disabling:
S8 Prohibition on altering the sound of a vehicle subject to this standard. No entity subject to the authority of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration may:

(a) Disable, alter, replace, or modify any element of a vehicle installed as original equipment for purposes of complying with this Standard, except in connection with a repair of a vehicle malfunction or to remedy a defect or non-compliance; or

(b) Provide any person with any mechanism, equipment, process, or device intended to disable, alter, replace, or modify the sound emitting capability of a vehicle subject to this standard, except in connection with a repair of vehicle malfunction or to remedy a defect or non-compliance.
I just put it on the internet, so it is now officially true! :CWL:

Literal quote:

I believe manufacturers, dealers, service centers, insurers, etc are subject to the authority of the NHTSA.

I do not believe private individuals are subject to the authority of the NHTSA.

Would love an actual lawyer's take on this.

All the reviews talked about how silent it was on the trail. Maybe it is auto-disabled in off-road mode.

I have an EV currently and can say that without the low speed sound, I would probably have had phone lookers walk into me or into my path, particularly in parking lots. If you are in a pedestrian altercation and you have disabled your sound system...well, the sound you will hear will be injury attorneys chomping at the bit. My 2019 Kia Niro's sound is anything but obnoxious and preferable to honking the horn at people for sure...
