They probably have a surge requirement (winch? inverter?) and didn't want to fit a larger battery. Plus using two is a premium feature. Tesla had a great deal of issues using one small battery. For Tesla what should have worked in low voltage design didn't transfer to the real world.
Note that these are not LFP, which would have also been a premium feature.
I will replace these batteries in year 4.
