So how does this compare to an R1? Would love to see a side by side starting with same SOC.

It all depends on the lens you're viewing it from. R1 has a ~141 kWh battery pack vs ~90kWh on R2. R1 can't accept more than 500 amps but will sit at ~200kW until ~50% on account of the large battery, aka C rate. R2 will keep 600 amps or ~220kW until around 33% and then taper off very nicely, keeping 150kW at 50%. R1 does very well 0% to 50% but takes 23 minutes to do so bc the battery is so big. R2 can do 0% to 75% in the same time. But again R1 has big battery, so it is all in the eyes of the beholder as to what they value. From a C rate, charging curve, and thermal perspective R2 is superior. But big battery gunna big battery.

On a 1,000 mile road trip at 70mph with both starting at 100% SOC, the R1S max pack and R2 are almost identical in the time it takes if stopping at 10% SOC and charging for only 20 minutes each time. In this case the R1S starts out with the advantage bc it goes further on the initial 100% to 10% run, but R2 catches up with faster charging on each stop.

So as you can see the further you travel the better R2, but the shorter you travel the better R1 is bc of the big battery. So on a 500 mile road trip, R1S will win bc of initial 100% SOC and range of R1's big battery. They are a virtually tie on a 1,000 mile road trip, but on a 1,500 mile road trip R2 wins bc of superior charging.

It's a huge balancing act of big battery vs faster charging speed bc it solely depends on what you're trying to accomplish and what metric matters to you most. But I guess to answer your question directly R2 is faster charging. R1 is very slow 10 to 80% in about 38 minutes whereas R2 is 28 minutes.

This matches up with Tom's advice from his charging breakdown, he said just stop and charge for 20 minutes and move on for max efficiency.

Yeah, I’d normally like to charge to 80%, but it‘s really determined by what the next stop is. The default limit is set to 70% and that’s more than enough for around the town driving.

All that matters here folks is miles per hour. When I see 611 mi/hr average all I think is that road trips will be faster in R2. My R1 sessions avg closer to 400 mi/hr by the time I move on.

Caveats aside, it seems total travel time with charging stops will be less even with pessimistic range expectations.
