The Goodyears are very quiet and they’ve been a tad more efficient than the Pirelli 20. I’m just under a 1,000 miles And Goodyear at 2.38, pirelli 2.37 at 22k. I expect the Goodyears to improve even more in efficiency, but I do have some towing trips coming up which will skew it. Oh well the tires are awesome so no regrets.
Anyone have experience with the Goodyear ATs doing AT stuff yet?

Got the Michelin Defender M/S 2 in 275/65r20 put on today. First impression is that they are nearly silent compared to the stock Pirellis. Can’t wait to see what the efficiency numbers look like but I’m guessing at least as good and probably better.

Yeah, I agree for sure. I have about 400 miles on mine after getting them on from Costco. Much much quieter and my ride feels softer. Won't know much about the efficiency until the temps get up, but I'm looking forward to it. Either way, for me the only loss here was the look isn't as great as the Pirellis, but everything else feels like a win so far.

Can you post a pic of your rig with the new tires? Thanks.

Thanks! That added height from 275/60/20 to 275/65/20 looks noticable and I like your look better.

Got back from getting ours on today from Costco. It took them about 8 days total from ordering to install appointment. They did a great job, used the pucks they had. Inflated to 46psi, what are people running these at for pressure?

All I can say is remember that scene in Ratatouille where he tastes the dish and his transported back to his childhood? I think I was transported back to the first day we had the R1S..

It's like driving on clouds...

I sure wish they looked better from the side. I think it really is because of the size of the sidewall and if they were just a little lower profile it would help a lot. I've been torn the last few days about the Goodyear territory tires folks are putting on because they really look cool and they are getting pretty good reviews, but without being able to change the tire size right now in my life being on the line with my wife and children if the tires are not comfortable this is worth it.

I took some video going up to Costco on the highway before and coming back after with the sound up. I wasn't sure if it came out but I think it really did. The pirellis were so loud and actually vibrating the cup holders in the backseat. Of course these are pirelli's that are worn out versus brand new tires a real test would be brand new versus brand new but I'm super confident that when these michelins have the same mileage on them they will not sound like the pirellies.

Here is a video of before with the pirellis...

... And now after with the Michelins...

Thanks! I really appreciate the comparison… I’ve heard 1,000,009 times that they are “loud” but that is way beyond loud, either the tires were about to fall off or you were almost going back to the future! You prob. don’t have the tires but did you notice cupping or some other reason for the sound effects? I took them off at 7k, so I never got to hear that, although I think I could make out the very faint beginning of that undulation…nice choice with the Michelins!

I didn't see any obvious cupping, but tough to tell and I'm not the best at spring tire wear tends. They were at 19k miles, I rotated the quite often, and inflated correctly. They were cold when I recorded them, first ride or of the day and only 3 miles to that highway from my house.

I think you just get close to the end of life and the harder compound near the tire base comes into play big time. They were all terrian though of course which makes them inherently louder

Good point, maybe there’s an amplification effect or reverberation….what I can’t understand is some people claiming they had zero noise issues and were able to get 40k miles…

Yeah I think some people just have a different definition of what is a loud tire versus a quiet tire. Also driving style comes into play. Some people drive with the music up pretty loud all the time and some people drive at 15 mph all the time stuck in traffic.

Had them out in the snow last night and got to try out stopping distance in that. They did great on a snow packed road. I ran up to a stop sign at about 15 miles an hour and came off the throttle completely in snow mode with high regen on in the held until the very last second and then slid maybe 4 in.

Lots of noise means wasted energy. Used AT tires aren't going to compete with new all season MS truck tires. The on road manners will be much much better. You'll lose some off road traction but it'll be fine for most roads and trails the Rivian sees. I've been down a bunch stuff with 22s and scorpion zero just fine. In sand or slick rock, bald tires are kind of helpful. No mud where I am and dirt roads aren't much trouble unless the tires are easily punctured.
