Is anyone else having this issue?
The outer layer of weather stripping on the rear hatch has let go.... it doesn't look like it is damaged, just looks like the glue stopped sticking. IS there any kind of recommendation for glue type to re-stick it ?

Bad supplier QC. Have seen a few shared online. If you don’t want warranty to fix it, cleaning it up real good with rubbing alcohol or goo gone and reapplying weatherstripping adhesive should do the trick.

Local auto parts stores should have it or similar: https://a.co/d/8B3ejrE

I have a loaner R1S right now and noticed the same thing happening.

My Rivian has been experiencing the same issue. I noticed it when I was looking for the source of a loud bang or pop when opening the trunk. However, this only happens when it’s hot outside and the Rivian has been parked in the sun. I couldn’t find the source, so I’m wondering if anyone else has experienced this?

I didn't mention the loud POP when the back hatch opens but Yes. I have the same thing. I was assuming that it had to do with the larger weatherstripping sticking but did not investigate further.

Yes, I noticed the same weatherstripping issue when I took delivery. Had Rivian take care of it and haven't had any further problems after 2+ years.

I'm not aware of such a noise with the lift gate but if the popping noise happens when lowering the tailgate, that is due to the end of the torque rod under the carpeted flap moving around (or in some cases coming loose). There are some old threads with pics about that here on the forum (might need to search for torsion bar). I fixed mine with a zip tie.

Mine has been replaced twice. It is best to have it done at the Rivian Service center rather than the mobile service as they need to get all of the adhesive off the vehicle an replace with a new strip and adhesive.....takes about an hour and can be done while you are waiting.

Yep, I found this on my R1S this past Thursday. Trying to decide if I want to do warranty or not. My SC is an hour away, so do I fix it myself in 15 minutes or spend 3+ hours having the SC do it....

I think I'm probably going to get adhesive specific to automotive weather stripping and just put it on - the closest SC is 1.5 hrs away and like Zoidz, I can't see myself giving away half a day to have someone glue weather stripping back in place.

I am lucky only 15 minutes from a service center but I wouldn't give up 3 hours for this service repair. just get the old adhesive off the trim and the vehicle metal and apply a good automatic adhesive..3M makes an automotive double sided adhesive available on Amazon that I used on my Porsche with long lasting results

the loud bang in my case was the hatch and roof trim interfering with each other. It was only an issue in warm/hot weather I assume because the plastic expands just enough to interfere. Had it fixed at a service visit. I took a video and opened a ticket and service realigned either the hatch or trim (or both) and it’s been fine since.

Mine started falling off within the first few weeks. Rivian eventually replaced it and the replacement fell off before they finished repairing the other delivery day defects. Twice. They had to keep my car a few extra days after they used up all of the replacements they had on hand trying to find one that wasn't defective.

Fingers crossed that seal #4 is going to last.

Had ours replaced recently -- also had the loud "pop" sound when opening the hatch when it was warm/hot. Mentioned both at service, they replaced the weatherstripping and said they adjusted the hatch.

Unfortunately the "pop" sound is back, but at least the weatherstripping is still in place.
