Apple music seems better as well.

Apple started to sync my library from the Apple account, so yes, definitely better. Said that I already had it stopped working (not playing any track), and a soft reset obviously solved the problem.

They still really need to add caching. It’s such a waste of bandwidth that every time I get in the car and go to the library page it has to re-download all the album art.

and the app should cache the last 25 or 50 songs so you can listen when the LTE signal is poor.

or you know, just let me use CarPlay that already does those things.

Could not say it better. You are 100% correct. Rivian tries to re-invent the wheel (by not using car play), but they do not have the resources to do it. So they pretend that they know what they are doing, while in reality, they do not. Software is super important in Rivian, and having so many bugs diminishes the value of the car as a whole.

I agree. I love the overall Rivian SW look, but FFS we’re 2.5 years into this and just getting basic sh1t! Come the EF on already.

I can both agree with some of their philosophy and point out the sub par results.

Apparently adding phone and text integration is harder than rocket surgery! Not impressed with this effort at all.

All the issues I’ve been reading about lately with OTAs, charging, etc…. I figure I either bought the best R1S they ever built or am a very lucky person as I am just not seeing any of this….

I just went out a bought a lottery ticket just in case it is the latter. ?

Seriously though, I hope everyone can start having the great experience I’m having with mine as when it all goes right it is very cool.

You do not need CarPlay to use your voice for texting. I use Siri in my R1S to send and read text messages all the time. Just engage Siri and it plays over the R1 speakers.

That is what I do, but still prefer to do some things on the large screen. That is the main point - I am using my phone for 90% (including navigation as Rivian navigation is not precise). I use my phone for maybe 5% of things in my X5 as everything I need is either voice or on a large X5 screen. Including the ability to change the keyboard / voice recognition language

Tesla isn't perfect but they have some basic software items dialed in. Mainly:

1. Music tied to driver profiles (separate logins for spotify tied to the driver profile)
2. Location of the vehicle and speed in-app (not having to launch apple maps, google maps etc)
3. Text messages as I mentioned above.

Technically everyone starts from zero when creating something new and then prioritize what order they will introduce the defined list of features. Texting is on the list, we will probably see it before then end of the year.

I purchased my Model S in 2016 and did not have texting until sometime in 2019.

Totally understand Tesla has a massive head start but as someone already mentioned, there is no need to start from scratch. A lot of the features I mentioned weren't on my 2018 Model 3 but came within about a year but as you mentioned 2019 is 5 years ago. Hire someone from Tesla that built the software and boom - feature parity.

In other news, I am pretty sure the latest update to my 2025 R1S (2024.31.30) f'd up the driver assistance features. Everything was fine last night and this morning none of them work and error messages appear. Already put it to sleep and ran infotainment reset with no luck.
