The article I clicked had a guy excited for the possibility of a PHEV like the RamCharger.

If that's the version available I wouldn't even consider it.

That's not nearly the most important thing I took from that article. To me, that would be the insinuation that these might be EREVs instead of full EVs.
And that would remove all interest in it from me.

It would definitely put it more towards a different segment than Rivian like I think some here were concerned. At least for me, it would massively change the short and long term outlook for Scout, potentially in ways that are good for Rivian.

You think their first vehicle out of the gate would be a PHEV?

That seems pretty ambitious IMO considering the complexity of that sort of vehicle. Full EV seems much simpler...

There is a difference between a PHEV and an EREV. Whereas a PHEV is complex because it has essentially two different powertrains, an EREV has a fully electric powertrain while also having a gas generator that can charge the batteries.

100%. And personally not a fan of PHEV. It's a lazy bridge for legacy auto. The batteries are small and not meaningful. You get worst of both worlds. Cost of EV bits. Cost of maintenance on the primary ICE powertrain. The ICE generator of an EREV only needs to run at low constant rpm: less fuel consumption, less emissions, less wear and tear, fewer cylinders and parts to fail.

Well, it might be starting a bit later, but I think I found some info. Just searching for scout to see if any websites went early with their reporting and I found something. The little page description part of the search came up with some info from a site called greencarreports.com. If you google that site with scout motors you can see what I mean. SPOILER!It looks like the SUV will be called the Traveler and the pickup the Terra. Starting at a bit under $60,000. One says both will offer a range extender, but I don't know if that means thats the only option or if you can get a pure EV or an EREV. The pickup will have a standard 5.5 ft bed and two 120V and one 240V outlets. It says something about the bed having a carrier for a 35 inch spare. 350 miles of range and 500 miles with the range extender.

Guessing the range extender will add a lot of cost. Hopefully that drives everyone to the BEV. It's time to get rid of gasoline.
