I sure hope that the tire manufactures out there make a good AT in 21's. IF anyone hears about one please let me know. I heard through the grapevine that Nokian might becoming out with one................. IF ANYONE ELSE HEARS SOMETHING PLEASE PASS IT ON.

As far as I'm aware, nothing is out yet.

You have heard similar to myself: Nokian has something in the works. Rumor is that Michelin is also working on something, though I don't know if it's AT or AS; all I've heard is that it'll fit the 21s.

I'm, personally, in the process of gearing up for a 20" set of winter/off-road weekend warrior at 275/60R20 so that I don't have to worry about re-calibration.

Newby question: if no re-calibration required, does that imply your 20" winter warrior tires will somehow fit on default factory wheels that came with the 21" road tires? I always assumed if I stepped down from factory 21" that I would require purchase of new 20" tires AND new 20" wheels.

20 inch tires will not fit on 21 inch wheels. 20 to 20 and 21 to 21 only.

If u go from oem 21" setup to 20" 275/60/20 no reconfig needed.

Yeah… this was before they would have taken a clear coat… so they were unfinished…. But the 5 hours of meticulous masking and final prep were not to be… lol! Had the masking lines ended up razor sharp, I would have finished them… but my tires install next week and I need the paint to cure, so they are now all black and clear coated now. It could have looked cool, but the repair work would have taken a full day out of my weekend that I don’t have… lol!

From another thread 21" of the new Mitch Defender XLT 2 AS(116 load rated) is suppose to be out in July 2024.

Just to clarify. I currently have the 21s with the OEM tires.

I plan to go to 20" with 275/60R20, which will be a full set of 20" wheels and 20" tires. There's math involved here:

275/55 R21. If you break it down, R21 is the 'easiest' part--that tells you the size of your wheel R21 = 21 inches. R20 = 20"

275 = width in millimeters.

the 60 (or 55) (second number) is the RATIO between the width and height of the sidewall. 275*0.55 = 151.25mm * 2 + (21in *25.4 mm/in) = 835.9mm (/25.4 mm/in) = 32.91" This is your OEM Tire OD nominally

Compare to: 275*.60 *2 + (20*25.4) = 838.0 mm (/25.4 mm/in) = 32.99" This is the diameter of the 20 inch wheel set with 275/60R20 Tires.

The difference between these two is not nothing, but it's very minimal (32.91/32.99) = 99.76% the same size, and this is at nominal. With tire wear and tire pressure + sidewall stiffness, there will likely be no discernible difference, but even at nominal it's around 0.3mph at 90mph.

I switched from the factory 21's to a 285/60R20. The diameter was almost the same. No calibration needed. My dashcam has a GPS system and gives me an acurate speed reading. My speedo is about 1 mph different at 70 mph.
Dashcam shows 70 mph and my speedo shows 71 mph. Not a big deal at all.
Easiest way to check is to look at the tire's diameter that you want.
I am waiting for the new Michelin Defender XLT Platinum tire that they are releasing now in Nov 2023. It has a 70,000 mile warranty and was designed for EV's.
I don't like the tire noise on the one's I have now. Keep in mind when you switch. The tire noise difference is huge. The 21's are quiet!
Just a note to all that are wanting this new Michelin tire. It seems as though the 275/60R20 is going to be later in production.
I am looking at a 285/60R20 tire that seems to be available sooner.

We have the 21" wheels with 4,000 miles on them. The Pirellis are not showing any tread wear at all. We are hopeful that the new Michelin Defender Platinum will be be available for the 21's by the time we need them. We would rather not switch wheels as we feel the 21's (sans the frumpy aero covers) are the best looking wheels that Rivian offers.

275 width is the better choice when changing from 21’s to 20’s
