Hi there,

My OEM Pirelli's need to be replaced soon, at 15k now.

How do these perform?
- Continental TerrainContact H/T
- Goodyear Wrangler Steadfast H/T

Do you have recommendations on 22"?

Many thanks!
I'm at close to 15k miles on the 22's and still have 8/32" left. At this point, I'm hoping to get to 25K.

The Michelin Defender MS/2 in the E1 spec is on the market now. It's a 10-ply with a 50k-mile warranty.

I'm going to go with those Michelin defenders myself.

Anyone have any efficiency comments after switching from the OEM's to another kind?

Our OEM Pielli’s lasted about 26k miles. We tried to get the Continentals but they were back ordered, so went with the Goodyear Wrangler Steadfast (WRL) HT 275/50 R22 . They were $10 less a tire after the $100 rebate. So far so good. Quiet, good grip, smooth ride. Time will tell..
Update: I think we are getting dramatically fewer miles of range at high speeds with these tires! Rivian range was pretty accurate until we put these tires on. Now with highway driving we are getting like 30% less! Could this be a thing?

30% seems like a bit much when comparing 2 different all season road tires, but yes - tires can have a big impact on range. The reduced range of the 20" configuration is almost entirely tire-related.

Posted this in a couple other threads, so I’ll repost here in case it helps.

… a quick update regarding efficiency with the Continental TerrainContact AT, since I get asked often and just completed another 3k-ish mile road trip.

I now have over 11,000 miles on these tires and my lifetime average for the truck is 2.02 mi/kWh (had the OE tires for roughly 400 from delivery; rest of the trucks miles are on the Contis).

Of the 11k+ miles, around 6,000 are true highway (long distance, highway speeds) and the rest are a mix. Of the 6,000 highway miles, I'd estimate 75% were driven in Conserve mode; almost all others were in All Purpose with a small portion in Off Road. And around half of the highway miles (2500-3000) were driven with a cargo box mounted on the roof (the "range robber").

Wear is very even and consistent across each tire's section width and between tires (front/rear, left/right). I rotated them one time, at about 7,500 miles. At that time the fronts had slightly more wear than the rears. Now they are closer to equal wear (which makes sense). All tires are at around 6.5mm tread depth. Continental lists dread depth new at 12/32, which is 9.5mm ... so I'm at about 68% tread life compared with new, probably 55% usable life remaining.

If this is the case I would highly discourage others from purchasing these Goodyear tires for their Rivians. The savings from the purchase are likely to be eaten up and then some by charging costs and frustration.

FYI Wal-Mart has a killer deal on the TerrainContact HTs, I was trying to wear out my OEM Pirelli's as much as possible so that when I swap to my X-Ice snow tires I can just get rid of them but might have to pull the trigger on these.

Swapped the TerrainContact ATs for my winter set up a few days ago. Here is what wear looks like on the Contis with 14k miles. Since the 11k-mile update I posted (above), I did another 1700+ mile road trip (ie interstate and highway speeds for 600+ mile stretches). That one was entirely All Purpose mode, although I did lower the suspension on several legs.

Didn’t use tread depth gauge (will circle back), it would say they easily have 50-60% tread life left and have worn very evenly.

How has your efficiency been? I am debating between the HT and the AT, leaning HT because I rarely do anything off-road but really love the look of the AT version.

Averaging 2.0-ish lifetime. Too many variables go into that number though, and I’ve only ever ran these tires (mounted just after delivery) ... so who knows what I’d be getting otherwise.

That said, these likely aren’t the tires for people who hypermile and always seek max range, who are disappointed by anything that takes away that extra 0.2 or 0.3 mi/kWh over what I’ve been getting.

Just ordered the TC H/Ts - too good of a deal and got an additional discount thru SimpleTire as my wife is a student in grad school. Will report back once installed!

I was finally able to order the Michelin Defender LTX M/S2 in the XL (115) from Discount Tire I will get them installed next week.

Please update us once you do! I’m at 14k miles and my tires are all wearing unevenly. From 4/32 to 7/32. I also have this bad vibration throughout the vehicle above 74 mph. Got the alignment checked and tires rebalanced again (though not needed) and still hasn’t fixed the issue. I have the 22” wheels but can’t figure out what could be causing it.
