$3500 Windshield? In Canada

What is so special about Rivian windshields that makes them cost 600% more than a Toyota Tundra windshield or 300% of a Porsche Panamera windshield? I hate this truck more and more as each day passes.

The last time I scored a $300 windshield replacement on a new car I had to use an actual key to open the doors and ADAS was using your crotch to steer because it took two hands to use the cigarette lighter to spark up your bong.

I worried that might be the case, so didn't bat an eye at glass coverage on the policy.
My highlander windshield was $270 (CAD) installed this year.
Also the chip fill membership through DECO has been key, like 15 chips filled in 2 years of R1 ownership.

I paid $2700 USD to replace mine in early 2024 at a Rivian Certified shop, as there were no SCs nearby. Back then it would've been $1800 at a Rivian SC, but it was a 2 hour drive. A lot of it is the recalibration of the cameras and sensors in the windshield. I'm not saying it's inexpensive, but a lot of cars with all the cameras are charging over $2k for a replacement too. Hell, Safelite wanted $700 to replace the side window of my Bronco with no cameras or sensors, using off brand glass.

A Porsche windshield is only $1200ish?? I had a 2015 Volvo XC70 prior to my R1S and that windshield was $2200.00 CDN. I was told by my friend, the owner of a local InstaGlass, that, as Technerd said, it is the recalibrations that make it so expensive.

I got quoted ~$2400 USD to replace the windshield on my Model S last year.

Vehicles with driver-assist cameras have expensive windshield replacement costs.

You can get a lambo windshield for $2k. EV9 is $2400. Rivian is in line with the market, except somehow lambo glass is their only cheap part.

Funny! I love that. After getting my second free chip repair the guy says we did as well as we could. Visibly it wasn’t much different than before only smoother. We can replace it for you or you can wait until it gets worse. Hmmm I’m fine.

Just took a road trip to OR, and got a chip in OR.

Got home and had the chip fixed for $99. It's not perfect but it's also not $2K either.
