Any recommendations for extended warranty providers? Any feedback dealing with repair reimbursements would be particularly very helpful!
I chose XCare because it has a strong reputation among Tesla owners, and my service center in Tempe, AZ confirmed they’ve seen good results, quick reimbursements and smooth claims. With Tesla, the relationship is so established that XCare can even pay Tesla directly, and that’s the same direction they’re moving with Rivian.

Given that a single dampener can run close to $4,000, the coverage brings real peace of mind. I’m confident it was the right choice. You can get a $100 discount from my signature, and it isn't linked to an account of mine, so there is no reward for myself.

Had my R1T since early 2023. Haven't added them up but I'm probably close to 35-40 issues which would have cost well over $25000. With my warranty ending soon (mileage), I decided to sell. Still loved the vehicle but just didnt want to deal with the 3-6 month service queue (Seattle) and the cost of out of pocket repairs.
What vehicle are you buying next?

Between my 2, I've had 3 mobile visits to my garage in over 40k miles so far. Much better than my last 3 ICE vehicles.

I did Xcare. If you get your truck early enough you can get some pretty long terms. I added 10yrs/175k miles so I am covered for 9 more years and a total of 184k miles.

Not sure if I will drive it that long as I hate the freakin' wind noise. My truck has had about 20 issues resolved not counting the ones Rivian and their body shop are responsible for.

Other than the 2 steps backwards/sideways on my wind noise, I think we've got all the kinks worked out. Well, until we don't. I never thought I'd own a car that made Tesla service look good. The service experience that I have used too much due to the poor QC is what has really spoiled my ownership experience.

Every time I think about going to a Gen 2 truck, I only have to think about how bad some of the issues they have had and realize I'll also have to deal with massive depreciation on a 120k+ quad on top of it. Learned my lessons with Tesla and Porsche, expensive EV values plummet faster than a Caddy does.

So I have enough covered miles with my Xcare warranty to make it until the Gen 3 R1's debut, assuming there is a 3rd gen.

I’ve generally loved my R1T for all the reasons most owners do. Four dampener replacements and a couple of other repairs would have cost me close to $20K. Other than that, the truck has been outstanding. The only way I felt comfortable keeping it was by picking up an extended warranty at 57,500 miles. I’m at 61K now, covered until 137K, and I’ll hit the mileage cap long before the time runs out. Plan is simple: run the wheels off this thing.
Just curious what they are charging for the additional coverage??
Whine festival?? Fucking Moron! Sorry, some of us expect more from a vehicle.

From these forums it appears that some people have few problems and some have a lot. Also, not everyone puts in a service ticket for the minor things. For example, the tonneau cover not closing all the way is a calibration issue that is a DIY fix if you dig in the manual. But bottom line from my read of people’s experiences, and some my own, Rivian has much more variability in quality than their ICE peers. Plus their SC model is not sustainable for growth, especially witth the factory adding problems (like door alignments) to their load.

What’s everyone’s experience on service issues with their truck?
I’ve had 34 issues since I bought my truck in 22. Some have been major that would’ve cost thousands each and a few minor. Hard to believe this is standard. In Colorado they are opening 2 more service centers in a few months which will be helpful as current wait time is about 8 weeks… currently it’s completely unacceptable.

I'm in Southern Colorado. The Colorado Springs service center is usually 2 to 3 weeks unless it is urgent. They are great to work with. Only 3 trips to the SC in about 1 year 3 months. One was self inflicted. One mobile visit to replace the 12 volt battery before it died.

There are quite a few factors that affect the price, how old your Rivian is, mileage, deductible option, and length of term. The nice part is you can pull an online quote in just a few minutes. For reference, mine was a little over $5K and takes me up to just under 140K miles.

I've had R1T Gen 2 since last November and am still below 7500 miles

For what it's worth: I've had a minor frustration with a software updates un-syncing my phone, and one minor recall (a tech came to switch out brackets holding the 12v battery under the passenger seat, which hadn't been properly rustproofed).

Other than that, no other issues. And zero expenses.

41,000 miles and 12 service request, two of which were recall or technical service bulletin related and the first couple were body lines and wind noise related. I'd say that's pretty good for a 110xx vin Gen1 R1T. I'd do it all over again without a second thought.

I purchase my XCare coverage on 3/1/25 for $7967. I was at 55K miles at the time and I'm covered for 6 years or 100K additional miles with $0 deductible.

I brought my truck in April at 57K miles and had about $20K in warranty repairs done replacing dampers, jounce lines, tonneau cover, and some modules.

I'm now at almost 70K miles and it's going in for issues with noises in the suspension and a few other things. Contacted XCare with my issues and they said to schedule an appointment with Rivian and send over the estimate when I get it. Glad that I got the coverage so these repairs won't be burning a bigger hole in my pocket.

I'm ashamed to admit I just bought my 4th R1T. I will say they keep getting better in regards to QC. I've had VINs 7000, 15000, 30000 and now 42000. First truck had 17 (35 issues) SC trips in 20 months over 61,500 miles. Not going to bore you with the gradual improvement stats, but if I still had a gen 1 VIN under 20000 I would trade it. I know you don't want to reward poor quality, but you will be pleasantly surprised at the improvement. I don't yet have 1000 miles on this one, but the refinement and quality improvements are stunning. No wind noise, PAK works every time, no squeaks or rattles. By this time on my previous trucks I was making a list for the first SC appointment. V2 tonneau is almost worth the price of admission. This one is a 2025. They are being very aggressive on trade values (on Rivians) right now too. The truck is the perfect size for me so I just can't give it up. Up to 132,000 miles on the 4 of them combined.

I've had my vehicle since June 2023, with 29k miles.

Service history shows 7 visits, although that overstates what I'd consider "Rivian" issues.

-The vehicle had some QA issues found after delivery. The AC was over-filled with coolant, a bluetooth module went out, and the mobile charger was defective. This was fixed in a one-day service visits about a week after delivery. It counts as two visits in the app, as I had to come back a different day to swap out the mobile charger.

-I had Mobile Service do a 15,000 mile service, and adjust a minor door alignment issue while they were there.

-The service center had to recalibrate the cameras after I had Safelite replace a broken windshield.

-I had an alignment done at the service center after getting new tires and having some inconsistent tire wear. I also had them fix a dash rattle that started after some bumpy forest service roads.

-I took it into service when Rivian proactively reached out about replacing the 12V batteries.

The QA issues on delivery and the panel gap on the door were the only things I consider to be a miss on Rivian's side. You could maybe count the 12V replacement, but I'm happy with them proactively reaching out about the batteries before they became a problem.
