gee an article that regurgitates somebodies gripes from reddit. I haven’t had any of the issues listed. Article does smell of AI slop.

We have driven almost 90,000 miles with two Rivian's and haven't experienced any real software issues that drove us crazy, with the exception of PAAK early on, but that has basically subsided.

I haven't observed these problems to the extent the anonymous Redditor says. If confirmed at the level that he says, at least some of them would be significant.

The author, if human at all, doesn't seem to have confirmed any of the alleged facts or applied any critical thinking of his own.

If this article isn't "AI slop," @tbinmd and @AllInev, it's a pretty good imitation.

***

(1) Climate Control sometimes blows the opposite of software indicators say: I've observed that the vents sometimes blow a different temperature than the software indicates. Not extreme, but seems a little more arbitrary and less predictable than the Bolts.

(2) Sensors go out and Cruise Control won't work: Not observed.

(3) USB ports cycle off when demand approaches their 60W rating: Not sure if this might explain reliability problems with our SSD drives. Our MacBook Air needs 60W of power. Maybe I should try drawing laptop power from the back plug instead of from the console.

(4) Misidentification of overhead structures as "tunnels": Not observed.

(5) DCFC charging sometimes goes faster than the preconditioning software predicted: Is this even a complaint?

(6) Cabin preconditioning heats to about 6 degrees F lower than the chosen set point: In my world, that's called "Close enough. Be grateful. Figure out the details."

(7) Snow Mode regeneration mirrors regeneration settings from whatever other mode Regeneration is set in, rather than a regeneration setting consistently appropriate to snow driving: If true, this seems dangerous. Does anyone know if it's true?

***

The article's author seems to think Wassym has nothing better to do than respond to individual queries on Reddit.

That wouldn't be wise on Wassym's part. It would open Rivian to all kinds of misbehavior from its competitors and their agents, and it would distract Wassym from doing the most important parts of his job.

There needs to be a process regulating who gets Wassym's attention, and how Wassym instructs others to fix things in priority order.

***

I hope to hear from others about their experiences, especially regeneration in Snow Mode.

Best wishes!

I'm a bit over 45,000 miles on an R1T. I have experienced none of these issues. My only complaint is eats tires quickly. Love, Love, Love this vehicle.

I keep telling myself tire wear is self controllable, but who am I kidding.

I've read the original Reddit post and it's not hyper critical of Rivian, but highlights that they need to work out the persistent years long bugs while also progressively adding and enhancing the software suite.

It's been making its rounds as a result of the post, @Kryptonlogic picked it up, https://riviantrackr.com/news/why-some-early-rivian-owners-are-losing-patience-with-software-fixes/

and now @OutofSpecKyle featuring Jose.

Wassym Bensaid, Chief Software Officer at Rivian, responded to the original Reddit post with this: "unfortunately bug fixes do not get same public attention as new features do, so i am glad you are highlighting these. Snow mode regen is addressed in the upcoming .46 update in less than 2 weeks. The preconditioning issues are slotted for the following update early next year. I wish we can address the USB issue through software, but your issue helped us highlight an update to the supplier part that we introduced earlier this year - please DM me and we can update that on your vehicle. For the HVAC issue, please raise a service request. Service team will need to inspect the vents and fogging sensor (i actually had a similar issue on my R1S and it was caused by a tag that fell in the thermal duct). thank you."

I've definitely experienced #2 and #3. I've had several drives where a hard reset is required for the ADAS sensors to work again.

The USB ports freak out and keep turning on and off if I try to charge my 14" MacBook pro. To the point where I don't bother trying to charge it in the vehicle.

Didn’t read the whole list, but I did experience #2 (not to be confused with “going number 2”…💩) on my drive back from NY over Thanksgiving. The front had iced over due to snow. We pulled over at a rest stop in PA, cleared the snow/ice away, and all was fine. However…

the Reddit poster kinda gives themselves away by stating that it “fails to fall back to standard cruise control”. Ummm…there is no such thing in a Rivian. It’s 100% adaptive cruise, or nothing at all…a complaint of some people here over the years.

I have had some of those issues and also several others on my gen 2. 3.5 service appointments in 700 miles and still have persistent problems. I know folks have problem free vehicles but that’s certainly not everyone’s case.

1) Not really an issue I would say, but the colour doesn't always match the temp set. The guy should just ignore the colour haha.
2) I've had my front radar ice up and not allow adaptive cruise control. I've always had the sensor glitch once and not allow it, but it didn't persist more than a few mins after turning the vehicle on.
3) Hmm interesting. I've charged my sons M2 MacBook Air and iPad Pro no problem.
4) I've seen this on the Trans Canada highway between Banff and Canmore; there are overhead wildlife passes that are very short or bridge like and it will turn off what passes for "Autosteer" in a Gen 1. Haven't seen it with anything else.
5) Sure it happens all the time since they introduced the manual preconditioning feature - it never says my truck is ready for 200kW charging. But I don't care, I'd rather they were conservative than the opposite.
6) I've never brought a thermometer to my truck to check! I know that I like my truck at 19C and I just leave it there all winter (sometimes bumping it to 20 or 21 if I'm really cold). I don't actually care if it is different than that, it consistently works for that setting.
7) Known 'feature' that is changing with the next update. I wouldn't call it dangerous, just annoying sometimes (e.g. using high regen in AP mode, then switching to Conserve where I'd rather have Low by default, but the setting 'sticks').

Not sure what the guy is going on about these being 'bugs'. More like this is just the way it works. Bugs are when thinks don't work consistently or glitch. My only gripe that way is that my album art disappeared from Tidal several months ago and I've had zero luck getting it to come back - it also won't remember what I've been playing if I switch sources, where it would do that before.

Tidal bug when updating the vehicle, or rebooting. Only "fix" is to change media sources (change to Spotify) and then update the truck, or do an infotainment reset. Once things load up again, go back into tidal and all is restored.

Pain in the ass when you're eager for the latest software, but forget to do the media swap prior.

Merry Christmas 🎄😉
