Alexa can't control Apple Music?

Just got the update. Love it so far, Apple Musics has always been my go to. However if you tell Alexa to play a song it defaults to Amazon music and if you tell it to play on Apple Music it says it's not supported. Am I doing it wrong?

I think you have to integrate your Alexa account with Apple Music and then configure Alexa to use Apple Music when using commands.

My account is linked. I use it with a normal Alexa all the time.

Me too. I haven’t seen that they enabled this skill or integrated the native app. Apple Music is better in many ways in Rivian than Spotify. However, missing podcasts and voice control is tough.

I went into the Alexa iPhone app and linked Apple Music to my account. I had previously done this with Spotify and then deleted the app. I also made Apple Music the default music service for Alexa. I then deleted the Alexa app again.

However, missing podcasts

Podcasts have never been a part of Apple Music (at least not since the iTunes days) so not sure how it could be missing.

FWIW, I think having them separate (e.g. use Apple Music for music and Spotify or Audible for Podcasts) is preferable to having them intermingled. A constant frustration I have/had with the Spotify app is that if you "overuse" one or the other of podcasts or music it dominates your Home Screen, making it much harder and in some cases impossible to access content for the other type. E.g. you stop getting new music recommendations if you listen to only podcasts for a few days.

These new features being added are great but they really need to include Alexa support for them. The hvac vent pre-sets in the last(?) release should also be controllable by Alexa but that didn't get implemented either. Hopefully that will come in a future release. Or perhaps they are working on a bigger update to replace current gen Alexa with Alexa AI or something a lot more capable than what we get today. A guy can dream, right?

In relation to stop paying for Spotify, it would be nice to have podcasts. I already pay for apple. Added Spotify when I bought the T. Could stop paying Spotify and add Connect+. I think that Amazon Music might be enough for podcasts.

Without Alexa (voice control) support for Rivian’s native Apple Music app I would argue that by using Bluetooth connectivity to my phone for Apple Music I actually have more functionality. I can say, “Hey Siri, play…”. So IMO Rivian’s addition of Apple Music turns out to be pretty much a waste of time and effort.

Free Spotify works well for podcasts. The limited skips and lower quality really aren't an issue when listening to podcasts. Plus, if you use Spotify exclusively for podcasts, they take over your home screen and recommendations.

My plan is to use Apple Music as my music app (I was already a subscriber) and use free Spotify as my podcast app.

Not really. I primarily listen to podcasts and the Spotify experience has been the worst I have used. For two years the truck's Spotify has failed to load podcast episodes and is generally just horrible. With the OTA update I am trying Audible as my in-truck podcast solution. It has already passed one test by loading episodes for a podcast the ALWAYS results in "No Media Found" error in Spotify.
