I was using NAV yesterday to a soccer field and didn't want to take the expressway, which is what NAV offered as route A. NAV offered an alternate route B which I selected and when I hit GO it switched back to Route A. Thought maybe I fat fingered it somehow and tried again. Same result. NAV didn't want to accept the alternate route. Bug?

Apple car play does this to me, too. What seems to happen is that, as soon as you deviate from your route, like pulling into a Starbucks drive-through, it reverts to the original route. I get around it by selecting a mid point that would only work with the route I want to take.

Not the same thing. This happened before I even started

Not really a bug, it just will keep adjusting for fastest arrival. You can go into the settings and tell it to avoid highways.

Ok, I get what you are saying but based on my use in my other vehicles, even with "use highways" option selected if it gives you an option of Route A (which may have highways) or Route B (which doesn't" ) and you select Route B it gives you that route. In my case, if offered both routes but only let me start using Route A. IMO this is not what is supposed to do.

Curious what vehicle you had that worked that way.

For me both the Jeep GC and Tesla both work the same as the Rivian does.

Audi S8 and both Apple Maps and Google Maps work that way. I guess if the Rivian Map only wants you to use a route with highways why offer Option A & B.

This morning on the way to lunch, I had this happen. I entered the destination address and it showed its preferred routing to the address. After a second, a different route that I wanted was offered. I selected the 2nd route that I preferred and then hit Go. The directions flashed and then it reverted to its preferred routing (first option) instead of the one that I selected. Grrrrr....

In cases like this, I just ignore the on-screen directions when it's trying to route me on a non-preferred route. Generally, within a short time of deviating from the route that it wants you to take, it recalculates with your current position and will follow your desired route. In extreme cases, add waypoints to the route, but that's generally not required.

I don't know if this is new behavior with recent software or if it's been like this for a while.

Probably wouldn't hurt to record a video of it misbhaving and reporting it to Rivian...
