This morning I was given guidance by the Rivian delivery team to contact orders and not cancel my custom order.

At that time there was an exact build in the shop, to my custom order with 1-6 week delivery, and it is eligible for $3000 off while my custom order is not. I plan to trade in my ICE Honda Accord so I appear to be eligible if I hadn't been diligent on the custom order. Why place a custom order if this is the undercut pricing game being played?

With Rivian batching orders, I wonder how likely this is to happen on a regular basis.

My name is Mike, and I have a (car) problem
Hanlon's Razor.

Pull the trigger on the Shop build and you're fine.

I got my R1S last year. I could have waited for my order but instead got one from the shop just to get it a few weeks early. It was a different colour and the tyres were different. I could have waited to get more discounts like others or perhaps a newer G2 model. I'm happy with my decision and am enjoying the car. $3k is about 3% of the price. I'd just move on but if you really want that $3k-negotiate and escalate nicely. All the best.

Luck of the draw. Vehicle in the shop you would gladly take vs waiting for your custom config. With the reduction in options it is more likely.

Did you forgo your deposit? The issue has to do with the same vehicle configuration getting the discount in the shop and I am being undercut for being in line since July. It is the principle not the money per se…I am pretty well off and could pay cash for the vehicle many times over if I wanted too.

I understand your point. I also respect the fact that you're not coming on the board and flaming Rivian. It just depends on how much time you are willing to invest in resolving this. I wanted the car quickly and am easy going on most things. I did not have to forgo my deposit because last year the rules were different. I did end up paying extra for the El Cap colour and the 20" wheels, which was not part of my original order. I wanted the silver colour and 21" wheels. It all worked out because I like the EC colour more and the 20" wheels are great. All the best mate!

I don't see why Rivian would do this. If it is the same car, and you're still making the purchase, I don't see the difference or any justification for losing the 3k. It shouldn't make any difference to Rivian, they are gaining the same either way. It seems like they are just being difficult for no reason.

This is an opportunity for Rivian customer service to make a customer happy with the only cost being shuffling a little paperwork. Seems like a no brainer.

Is trying to minimize the vehicle cost worth your time? Or does that have entertainment/recreation value?

There are 3000 reasons for being difficult.
Not really, that 3K is a deposit on a vehicle right? So if he waits it gets credited towards his custom build. There is no reason why they can't just move the deposit, Rivian doesn't earn any more money because the OP's custom build can just be sold in the shop. There is no difference, and they aren't at the end of the quarter, so it doesn't matter.
