Not really, that 3K is a deposit on a vehicle right? So if he waits it gets credited towards his custom build. There is no reason why they can't just move the deposit, Rivian doesn't earn any more money because the OP's custom build can just be sold in the shop. There is no difference, and they aren't at the end of the quarter, so it doesn't matter.

The vehicle in shop has a $3k discount, they would likely discount OP's vehicle if it went in the shop, so $3k loss there.

Like I said…it is the principle. Principles should matter. If someone purposely shortchanges someone…it doesn’t feel good to me whether it’s $0.50, $5 or $5000.

Speaking of principles: did you place a $3,000 nonrefundable deposit for a custom spec rivian or did you place a $3,000 deposit for any rivian you choose?

It sounds like you made a deal, and want to back out without any consequences of doing so. But Im not sure here, it was different when I purchased, details are unclear. Just my imperfect perspective/worthless opinion. Hope you end up with a great vehicle either way.

Seems like you placed a non-refundable, were assigned a VIN and now you are backing out? I still think Rivian should just apply your deposit but maybe their business process doesn't make it easy. I hope it works out. I have a reservation and just checked - I suppose once I agree on a vehicle and get my VIN, this isn't recoverable.

If you go with the shop order, you can also use a referral code for $750 credit in the shop and 6 months free charging on their network. I haven't taken delivery yet so I don't have a referral code to share. ?

I’m in the exact same boat. They will not apply the $1000 to purchase of shop vehicle, but you still say $2000, plus $750 for referral program on shop. Must add referral at check out.

You have no incentive to cancel the prior order until you know the new order is complete. I went through and validate info needed. And the vehicle I wanted was gone. This has happen to me before.

I will watch, order from shop, then cancel custom order.

I would never just over pay by $2000, or $2750 (plus my friend gets $750).

I understand not refundable but they should just keep customers happy and price match until the vehicle is purchased. They have the right to increase price, why should I have the right to decrease price?

Not a big deal, but a frustrating buying experience for me. I current have a custom offer that has been out there for 2 weeks. I will most likely find a shop vehicle and purchase, than camel custom order. I. Not canceling until I have a new car purchased. I can let them build it, ship it, inspect it and then cancel. Just weird they do t price match until vehicle is purchased.

Why? Prices change all the time. If you buy something at the grocery store that goes on sale the next week do you try to return it and get the price? I ordered my Rivian and GMC just came out with 0 for 60 month financing on the Hummer which was the other vehicle I was going in between. I can either lose the 3K I put on my Rivian order or go through with it but that's on me and the choices I've made.

I missed that your issue is that you can't get an extra 3K off, I do not agree that you should. You agreed to a price and Rivian is going to honor it. You can either honor it on your end or forfeit your 3K which is the same choice I have right now.

No, that vehicle will have to go to the shop where the same discount the OP wants will apply. They aren't going to match the order to someone else with a reservation. So Rivian will be out an extra 3K if they allow that.

I understand the contract and hindsight is 20/20. The point is that having a contract puts you at risk at losing money for being diligent. Folks need to realize that!!! I learned the hard way, and I don’t want other to have the same experience!!!
